Help - recurrent mange

I have a fantastic little dog, and for most of this year he keeps getting mange in his feet. It is so painful for him...he won't go for walks, constantly biting his paws.

I've spent hundreds on this potion that is like a sheep dip thing but everytime I finish the treatment, it's back in a few weeks.

I'm at my wits end with it.
He's so sad.

Anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks again all.

So, the result of the skin scrapes was the d type mange (keep forgetting it and did some strange French word on last post) is still there and he has a severe bacterial response to it.

So, he's been prescribed an orally administered 'off license' treatment that I have to give him every day. And antibiotics.

They want to try this treatment before investigating other stuff.
He's all tired tonight because was sedated so not so sad Smile

Fingers crossed this works this time

What's the 'off licence' stuff? Is it Ivermectin? Has he had blood tests at all?

Lonecatwithkitten · 16/12/2014 19:10

Or is it milbemax orally.

He hasn't had any blood tests - do you think he should?

And the 'off license' thing seems to have no label on it - but the vet's label says Panomec?

He's a lot better already btw - antibiotics I guess

Panomec is ivermectin. It's effective for démodectic mange.

Demodectic mange usually occurs secondary to another problem when the immune system is overwhelmed so it's worth ruling out allergies etc. interdigital dermatitis can be an absolute bugger to treat and usually requires regular antibacterial foot baths. Advantage will also help to prevent recurrence of the demodex. Often it's a case of managing rather than curing the condition
Good luck

Thank you Flowers

I have a feeling there is something else going on too. But I guess getting rid of this mange is the first thing.......did I tell you he has 6 toes?

Indication of bad breeding I guess Sad

I'm glad he's feeling better but I had to LOL at the 6 toes. Maybe he's from the same litter as my neighbour's puppy-farmed shih tzu- he has only half a foot!
Blood tests and allergy tests would rule out problems that could be at the root of his foot issues.

If only I could post a picture of his shaved infected 6 toed chicken feet Shock
