Hi, my dog has been bitten at day care by another dog :-( it's not bad, not a gaping wound but two punctures. It did bleed but has stopped now. He's a greyhound so thin skin anyway. Do I take him vets as precautionary measure? He seems fine just a bit subdued and miserable but I'm worried about infection. Anyone advise?

I just went to Doghouse threads hoping for an update! So glad he is ok and will be home soon. Hopefully few days of antibiotics and he will be back to new again.

Chrismoosemama · 03/12/2014 19:12

Good to hear he's ok. I think it's pretty common for sighthounds to be slow coming round.

Hopefully he's safely ensconced in his bed by now.

Sending speedy healing vibes to him and a large Brew and some Cake for you.

Hi everyone, just another update, and horrible picture!

He was so miserable last night, cried a lot everytime he tried to get comfy, peed on the carpet twice for some unknown reason (never done that before Sad). He hasn't eaten or drunk anything yet, tried to tempt him last night with some tuna, hot dog, cheese and ham and he turned his face away from everything. Hasn't even sniffed at his breakfast this morning, but he is seeming less sore this morning. I took him for a quick walk around the estate and by the end of the walk he was trotting as normal so that's a positive sign. Wish he'd eat though Sad

Thanks for all the positive thoughts and I am loving your christmas namechange moose Grin

Aww bless him hope he heals soon.

Chrismoosemama · 04/12/2014 10:05

Ouch! Your poor boy. Sad

It's not unusual for them not to want to eat after a GA. They usually give them something to eat at the vets to get their system going before they discharge them and with still feeling grotty and sore they just don't have much of an appetite. It can sometimes take a day or so for them to settle. Pip, despite being noisy and keen to come home from the vets, was still pretty wobbly when we picked him up, came home and pretty much slept for 48 hours.

It's a good sign that he was trotting normally on his walk, he probably just needs a bit of time to get over both the bite trauma and the vets.

Sending more speedy healing vibes for him.

Oh bless him, hope he feels better soon. Sounds pretty typical first day after an op so he should perk up soon.

Vet wouldn't make much of a barber would they?!

TooOldForGlitter · 05/12/2014 11:10

They have butchered a bit haven't they spicybear!

He is much improved today. Back to normal with regards to eating. He has very loose poop almost diarrhoea but I am assuming that is down to the pain killers and antibiotics he is on, plus he hadn't gone until this morning since Wednesday so hoping that's normal. He is still stiff and cries occasionally when he catches it but definitely seems on the mend.

He is having his drain removed tonight, i've never had this with a dog before and i'm wondering if anyone knows what this involves? Will they just pull it out, or sedate him and do it?

butchered him a bit...can't type today!

He won't need sedation - most dogs don't bat an eyelid. The stitches holding it in place at either end will be removed and then it just slides out.

Glad he's feeling better :)

Here he is giving it the ol' sad eyes Smile

Aaaaaw :)

TooOldForGlitter · 05/12/2014 11:24

Thanks crapcrap, good to know it's simple. He never used to bother about going to the vets, i'm not sure he'll feel the same after this experience!

Take a tube of primula or a peanut-butter filled Kong to the appointment - keep him busy with it if you have to wait, or while he's having the wound examined :)

TooOldForGlitter · 06/12/2014 21:26

Update. He had the drain removed last night. He was fine, didn't even flinch. He's much brighter today, I think he's more comfortable without it in. Eating back to normal and no more diarrhoea since his antibiotics stopped. He was a bit stiff setting out on our walk tonight but by halfway point was trotting as usual Grin. Thanks everyone for listening and supporting, very appreciated.

As an aside, I think yesterday's vet was an actual Viking. At least 6ft 4" of blonde long haired utterly gorgeous Scandinavian. I nearly fainted!

Great news - so pleased.

And more importantly... where do I find this tall hot vet you speak of?!

Chrismoosemama · 07/12/2014 18:44

So glad to hear he's feeling better.
