Bark bark bark

Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop our dog barking?

Tussie is a 7 year old pug who has decided that when she is outside she needs to bark at the pixies, wind, garbageman, the car down the road etc.

Othello our other pug rarely barks so she isn't copying him. She isn't interested in toys and she obviously has lots of visual stimulation. More walks don't help. She doesn't bark when inside.

Any ideas?

No advice from me as I've the same issues.

Pugs aren't supposed to be yappy. Apparantly. Hmmm.

I did have success somewhat when I made her come in every time she barked.

She got clever though and started legging it around the garden when she saw me.

my JR used to run down the garden and bark unless I went out with her, she was quiet then.

I don't want to bring her in every time. She'll start to associate indoors with barking. If I go outside she doesn't bark.

why does she need to go out alone?

How about distracting her with a tasty treat every time she spots something to bark at? Treat and praise every time her attention is focused on you.

She goes outside to go to the toilet, eat and do dog things.

She is on a strict diet so regular treats are out.

She doesn't bark constantly just lots of small sessions.

I think she barks partly because she thinks she is a big scary guard dog, partly she sees pixies and needs to scare them and partly because she is my shadow and wants to be near me all the time.

She has our other pug for company and the neighbours jack Russells who come to visit.

OP, I don't think your dog will associate indoors with barking if you bring her inside.
It took a few months to train my dog not to bark in the garden but things started to get better in the first week.
He was never left outside on his own. As soon as he barked I said "quiet". If he continued to bark he went inside.
6 months later and he hardly ever barks in the garden, we always keep a close eye on him anyway because neighbours had dog stolen from their garden (6ft fence, locked gate same as ours).
