He started acting strangely last week and was running a temp, so he was given antibiotics. He didn't improve though. And was starting to walk into things and stagger about. The vet saw him again, thought that it might be a brain tumour and gave him more antibiotics (in case it was an infection elsewhere and the temp he was running might be affecting his brain) as well as steroids which might have helped.

I went to see him last night as I'd been told that it was highly likely he'd be put down if he didn't improve and I could see why. The normally bouncy and affectionate dog was restless, walking the house endlessly, with no co-ordination or spatial awareness. He walked and walked and walked bumping into things as he went. He'd come up and it would seem that he wanted a fuss, like he used to, but within seconds he'd be off again.

My Dad was so upset to think he'd have to be put down, but kept saying "That's not my dog, that's not Scraps".

Dad had to take him to be pts this evening as he was worse again, apparently. Bless him (both of them).

How really sad. It sounds a bit like what happened to our ddog. He went downhill very very quickly. We took all the dogs for a walk in the morning. By 5pm the vet had arrived with a syringe. I'm so sorry for your dad's loss. I think if it helps, that the Dogs Trust has some information about loss.

Poor dog and poor dad. Your dad did the kindest thing for him, even though he must miss him dreadfully Flowers

Oh :(

I dealt with a similar case yesterday. It seems to be even more heartbreaking, if that's possible, because they've gone from healthy to very unwell so quickly.

Your poor dad :(
