Ddog is 2, never had it before, woke up yesterday to 2 piles of it in kitchen, she refused her walk (tho it was pouring down and she is a rain-dodger).

She slept in her bed all day. Then had 2 more bouts last night, I just let her out in garden and it's still completely runny.

She hasn't eaten for 36 hours and has only drunk about 15mls of water that I fed her from a pipette.

She isn't exactly perky but she isn't really low with it. She just escaped upstairs and managed to run all around the bedrooms......

I guess you're probably going to suggest vets but I just wondered if I should give it another day, making sure she drinks more water?

She is due her boosters tomo, so I will delay them and ask them about this (tho, they'll probably say to bring her in).

My collie had the squits a few weeks ago, she basically pebbledashed the kitchen floor, disgusting it was.

IMO you don't need to take her to the vet yet, only if she's had it for more than a couple of days and she's weak/not herself.

What i did, and i do recommend as it worked really well for us is to feed her just plain boiled white rice (no salt obvs) for the day, tomorrow add some carrot and chicken to the mix, then if she's better phase in the usual food.

Hope your pooch is better soon.

Hi, try this link written by a vet: www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/how-to-stop-your-dogs-diarrhea-fast/

Pumpkin baby food worked well with our lab.

Dogs can be given imodium too. But water is the most important thing.

Jammygal · 14/10/2014 16:59

Take her to the vet asap. My bro lost his beautiful 5 year old immunised Labrador after a bout of what he thought were the squirts- it was actually parvovirus! Don't mean to scare but I would seek assistance as she is so off her food x

KatharineClifton · 14/10/2014 18:29

I think I would too seeing as she isn't drinking.

LesleyKnopeFan · 14/10/2014 22:07

Thanks for the replies. She still has the runs but has eaten a whole bowl of food, started being lively and barking again and is drinking water.

I called the vets and they suggested watching and waiting but to contact them if she seemed very lethargic or unwell.

Phew, looks like she's on the mend.

Re Parvovirus, am I right in thinking that dogs can't develop this if they have been spayed (Ddog has been)?

Thanks again.

No, you're not right in thinking that. Spaying stops pregnancy and reproductive kinds of cancer. That is all it does.

KatharineClifton · 15/10/2014 15:31

Glad she is on the mend. Rice is very good in settling stomachs I've found.

LesleyKnopeFan · 15/10/2014 20:55

Well, apart from still having runny poo Blush, she is absolutely fine. Being a complete pest again (and I have to say, I am so glad she is Grin).

She has a tendency to try to drink from muddy puddles, I always pull her away when on-lead but sometimes can't get to her quick enough when off lead. Think this may have caused it, though, who knows?

Blooming dog won't walk in puddles for toffee and avoids treading in them with much drama, yet she'll drink it.........

Thanks again.
