Long lead to practice recall?

Am I right in thinking this is what we need to practice recall safely with dpup? A proper one, not an extending one. How long do you think we need? Dpup is a Springer spaniel / Patterdale terrier x.

Actually I use 'down' and 'wait' with my boy ,he often won't come up to me but is happy to wait for me to go to him ,personally it think it makes him feel like he is in charge - same as loose lead walking ,he won't walk next to me but walks on a loose lead about a metre ahead .

I use a long line I buy from B&Q by the metre and tie it on to a carabiner which I also get from there. On certain walks I just let it trail but can stand on the end if necessary (or if I see a jogger or bike) but sometimes I hold it if he's being particularly obtuse.

monsters- as moose said- get "Total Recall". the most important thing is that everything is incremental. No good going from the garden without distractions to an outside space with distractions.

See this video for an idea

Criteria for recall include the distance they are from you, how distracted they are, etc.

Thanks DB - I've ordered Total Recall and will keep trying.

Thank you for all your advice, it's turned into a really interesting post despite my incredibly boring initial post. I've picked up lots of tips. It's really interesting having a cross breed to see what traits she gets from where.
