Introduce a new pup

I've taken advice from the vet about ensuring all jabs are done & introducing my 9yr old & pup outside on a walk, not leaving them alone together, giving Indy time away from pup & separating at feeding time. Does anyone have any more hints/advice? Indy grew up with a JRT but we lost her 6 years ago so there's been a big gap in time & I'm not sure how she will react?

Depends on the character of the older dog, I think. Recently got a puppy as my 12-year old is getting on ... just brought the puppy home and put her down in the garden. Big dog looked politely interested and then wandered off.
Over the last two months, puppy has bullied big dog, growling and taking her food, big dog has got exasperated and given the odd loud WOOF, puppy has backed off a bit (now mounts stealth raids on big dog's dish), big dog has played with puppy on very rare occasions and now basically ignores her ... while puppy runs everywhere, adoringly, after big dog.
Really, no drama at all.
Got puppy at 8 weeks, before jabs were finished, so big dog got space by being taken out for walks alone for a couple of weeks.
Introducing in the garden, with lots of space to get away if necessary, seems to be a good idea.
