He's a 5mo lab and his breath STINKS. Really doggy and gross.

We don't clean them (I know, I know) and need some quick and easy solutions please.

He's so loving and affectionate but I cannot handle the stinkiness! Grin

What does he eat? Diet can have a lot of impact of breath.

Also, that age is a great time to get him used to brushing so I really would start. Lecture over.

Plaque Off

Thanks spicy. Blush. Did try earlier and he simply tried to eat the toothbrush. He managed to eat the grooming brush earlier after I stupidly didn't out it away so not know he's capable of eating the tooth brush Grin.

Any good, resilient ones or should I just accept he'll nail a few!

You need to get him used to having his mouth/gums handled before you start with a brush. Begin with a flannel wrapped round a finger, and rub it gently around his teeth and gums. praise etc etc. Buy some dog specific toothpaste and let him get used to the taste.

Next start with a finger brush which should be available from your vet or possibly petshop. Introduce this and use it until he is comfortable with it.

After all of this you can use a toothbrush. A baby one is fine, it needn't be one of those double ended dog ones.

They love the poultry toothpaste, that is a treat alone for mine when she is having her teeth brushed :)

That said, his mouth shouldn't be that stinky at 5 months old, there shouldn't really be enough tartar to cause a smell. What are you feeding him?
