How long do lurches live,typically?

We have an old lurcher, 16yo. Very old and doddery now, but perfectly fit and well. Just a bit confused sometimes, I.e. He will walk into a room and then look like he can't remember what he came in for. We also can't take him on walks anymore as he is deaf and poorly sighted and just totally panics when he can't see you and runs off. We have land at home so it's not a bother.

We aren't wishing him away, only he had a stroke a couple of years ago and we felt he probably wasn't long for this world and here he is two years later still plodding on.

So how long do they live typically? Anyone?

On average they live 12-15 years.
So hug him tight the boys doing well x
I have a wee collie cross that's now 16 and he is just as you describe your boy but he seems happy and our younger lurcher is very good at nudging him along when he gets 'lost'

Depends on the cross too...I gather that the closer to deerhound you go for eg, the shorter the lifespan.
Mine is 11 and getting doddery - and I am very surprised and sad at this as I was assuming she's get well into her teens. She's a collie, whippet, grey.

Thanks for posts. He is believed to be springer x greyhound, but not too sure. Was bought as a pup, allegedly as a terrier, by my dh's exw. Then he grew and grew.

I will hug him tight, bless him x
