My 10 month old black lab is a real struggle. On the plus side she is not in any way aggressive and pleasant company (most of the time) with the immediate family. However, she is always a heartbeat away from absolute insane excitement. Walking her is a nightmare, her recall has completely broken down, every other dog is a major source of excitement on the lead and a reason to barge people out of the way at speed if off it. I am seriously worried she will knock someone over & hurt them (obviously she has knocked me & the kids over!) she still jumps up & nips strangers on walks. All this despite two good walks a day, plenty of company , training at home and one-to-one sessions with a trainer. We are so restricted as to what we can do with her that it is completely getting me down. I guess I don't need solutions as I have read every book/blog/thread I can find, I just need reassurance she is not a lost cause and she will one day be a lovely family pet Sad

She is still very young.

Our bitch is only just 1 and has calmed down massively since she has had her first season, 1 month ago

Stay strong!

Sounds like normal adolescence.

My girl was on a trailing lead for ages from about 8 months because although she'd come when called she's dash off as soon as I tried to put the lead on her. She's a small breed so I didn't have the problem of her knocking people over but she was a bit of a nightmare for quite some time - think of a teenage girl.

She's 3 years old now and is a wonderful, loving, funny joy to live with.

Keep the faith OP. Just keep doing what you're doing.

You dog sounds lovely generally, just a bit young and foolish at the moment. She will grow up and then you'll be rewarded for all the hard work with a lovely family pet.

She's a teenager :) and you obviously love her, so she'll turn out fabulous. Promise.

Sooner than you'd think, she'll have a grey face and a sad wisdom in her eyes and you'll laugh at the baby she used to be and all the adventures she'll have had over the years. My darling is almost 1 now, and while she's mostly ok in the house apart from violent outbursts during witching hour, she's a total demon at my mums house. Horrible, broke someone's nose by running past them with her brick skull , loud, literally bouncing off the walls, wrecking everything etc. getting her neutered next week, which will knock the wind out of her sails for ooh, a good 2 hours?!

I know it's hard but they're only dicks for a short time, then they're pure joy.

Thank you, I feel much better now! She is worth the effort (like children I suppose!)
