Springers are bonkers mad. On the go all the time, need loads of exercise.

Looks like a English Springer Spaniel to me, just quite white with not many liver spots on its coat, but face gives it away.

I imagine they need a lot of exercising so probably not great for city life..?

Nope. They need off lead walks running about for a couple of hours. Friends have them and they're lovely but hard work.

Neighbours had one and they took it for short walks and it ate their sofa.

What cocker breed is more 'tame' or calm to fit in with a family, if any? I love the idea of a dog with spirit but our lifestyle wouldn't allow for a highly active breed.

Definitely a Springer, our gorgeous little pup is 6 months old and already has 30 mins in the morning and around an hour in the afternoon. Most of this is free running over fields and through hedgerows. They are so loving and have such personality but definitely not low maintenance, our pup is our 3rd Springer.

American cockers! (I'm very biased), are funny, intelligent, best doggies in the world.

Looks like a Snuggle Hound to me.

A springer like mine! Ours gets out walking/running scavenging for about 2.5-3 hrs a day.
In return for that she spends the other 21 hrs snoozing/checking out next doors cat/getting herself up of the sofa and into the kitchen if she hears a cupboard/fridge door opening...

She's not particularly crazy (pretty chilled actually) and not hard work good breeding more than effective training I think

Looks like English Springer Spaniel. There are also Welsh Springer Spaniels.
There is no generic springer spaniel.
The welsh is a much heavier set dog.

It's an ESS. The 'show' or bench-bred varieties are a bit calmer than the field type but they both need at least an hour a day of off-leash running/snuffling, preferably through woods, field or stream. The reward for doing that is a sleepy, affectionate, cuddly, gigantic lap-dog for the remainder of the day . They are brilliant with children. Cockers usually don't need as much exercise (unless they come from trial-dog lines).

Clumber spaniels are probably the calmest variety , they're also very lovely and a lot less commonly seen than Cockers and springers .

I've never heard of clumber spaniels but they look lovely .
