Is there anything I can do?

I don't want to give too many details but....

I know people who are trying to sell (for £££) their less-than-a-year old large breed of puppy due to its behaviour (aka lack of training and exercise), the advert is misleading though and I am horrified that people could buy this dog with this level of mis-information.

I am very sad for the dog and disgusted with their behaviour - I don't suppose there is, but is there anything I can do....?

Where did they get the dog originally? Could you try contacting the original breeder/rescue and let them know what they're doing? With a lot of rescues it's in the contract that you can't sell the dog on.

All I've heard about the breeder is that when they tried to talk to them about the behaviour issues the breeder threatened the police if the owners contacted them again Shock

Thanks for the tip about breed specific rescues, I googled and there is only one in the uk and I imagine it will be down south....as we are quite far north do you think there is any point contacting them? And then again if I do what would I say, it is kind of none if my business...

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do except perhaps alert relevant breed specific rescues. However reputable rescues don't buy out dogs so it's a long shot whether they would be prepared to try to convince the owners to give the puppy up.

Thanks spicy, that's what I was thinking, am so shocked that they are trying to sell him for soooo much, when my neighbour said he was trying to "get rid" of him I didn't expect that. And the text they have used to describe the dog and their situation.....lies lies lies Sad.

Poor poor dog

I may try to drop in to conversation about breed specific rescues if I see them again soon

A lot of rescues have transport and foster networks all over, even if based down south. It's worth a try. You could send them the ad and explain the inaccuracies. I volunteer for a rescue and when we have space we do offer to dogs on free ads that look most at risk (particular breed mixes, oldies etc) but we always try to convince the owners to relinquish. We never pay.

Thank you spicy.

I want to alert the breed rescue centre to this just in case they can help but am worried about anonymity....I don't want them to be aware it was me (truth be told I am a little scared of the owners) I am going to think about it and ask DH what he thinks.

Thanks for your help.

So I decided to email the rescue but the email bounced back, after googling to find another email/contact it turns out that the woman who runs this rescue has been charged with illegally breeding puppies and is falsely using the breed society name Sad.

Now I can't find any other rescue details but have emailed the breed society directly to ask.
