The bulk of their diet (80%) should be from muscle meat. The bones, liver and offal should be looked at more closely so you don't feed too much. You can have a few days of just feeding meaty bones but needs balancing out over time.

@Fan.

Do you fast your dog? Mine are still young (13 months and 10 months) so probably won't do it til spring next year.

Portioning liver/ offal is the most inconvenient re raw feeding for me. So just wondering what's the hardest thing for other raw feeders

I don't intentionally fast no but he does it himself round about once a week at least. He is an eat what he needs kind of guy and is very lean but strong as an ox for a diddy dog!

Hardest thing for me is remembering to get any unportioned items like tubs of tripe out of the freezer early enough to semi defrost and take out what I need before bedtime!

TooOldForGlitter · 12/07/2014 22:04

Am I the only person alive who doesn't mind the smell of tripe? It just smells like farm to me....

fanoftheinvisibleman · 12/07/2014 22:13

We were watching Room 101 and I asked 8 year old ds what his wildcard would be ...tripe he replied without a moments hesitation Grin

TooOldForGlitter · 12/07/2014 22:16

Haha Grin

GetYourFingersOutOfThere · 12/07/2014 22:18

Tripe is rank but Ddog loves it.

I feed on tripe, mince, bone, offal on a ad hock basis and just watch the poo to guide me.

We rescued our Ddog and I live the way she dances for her dinner since I switched her to raw.

TooOldForGlitter · 12/07/2014 22:24

Mine is a rescue too, greyhound. The joy he gets from his dinner is really heartwarming. His love for his meaty bones is unbeatable! Not to mention the improvement in his teeth and coat.

TooOldForGlitter · 12/07/2014 22:28

Oh and the poo! We tried every bloody food going, super expensive right down to Chappie and it was still mountains of soft poop. Now? Two poops a day, small, firm, lovely! (Did I really just describe dog poo as lovely?).

fanoftheinvisibleman · 12/07/2014 22:37

Come on, you are among raw friends...admit it...you love it when your dog poos next to the owner of a dog still turfing out steaming piles resembling mr whippy. Raw feeders all love a good poo comparison! Grin

TooOldForGlitter · 12/07/2014 22:39

OK OK I admit it. I even feel , smug Shock

TooOldForGlitter · 12/07/2014 22:44

I spotted some lovely shocking pink poop bags in Poundland a shop. I may buy them to attract attention to the small firm poop Grin

GetYourFingersOutOfThere · 12/07/2014 22:47

I admit I'm smug about her poo Grin when we rescued her we bpneeded a shovel and some board to scope her p but now it's twice a day and picked up with a dust an and brush.

I get compliments on her coat daily as we'll!

MarcoPoloCX · 13/07/2014 08:04

Lovely soft coat. Might make a coat if it when they are no longer with us. Lol. Smile Just kidding.

TooOldForGlitter - could you let me have your Greyhound's weekly menu - mine is lovely, but very smelly so I am interested in this. Also have a new staffie cross ( see other thread).
