I just wanted to gush post about the latest addition to our family. After years of umming and ahhing and searching for the perfect dog - which I was originally convinced had to be a pug puppy - today we adopted a 6 yr old staffy bitch from a local rescue centre.

And so far, she is wonderful. Sat quietly on my lap for the ride home, investigated the house and garden, scratched at the door to be let out to do her business and didn't eat the house when left unattended for an hour this evening. She understands sit and bed, and is happy to return a tennis ball for an over excited six year old.

She snores like a freight train and has a lot of gas, but that's all I can find to dislike about her. And the snoring is cute.

What makes me sad... she spent FOUR YEARS in a rescue centre waiting for a home :(

I grew up with two gorgeous staffies who made my childhood amazing fun. Delighted she has her home with you.

Mine were quite different, the female was clever, chased cats and protected us. The male was daft as a brush, had no chase drive at all, got beaten up by a cat and ate everything. Especially cow poo. And anything he could steal from the table.

His crowning steal was a pack of French nougat my mum had just been given as a present, individually wrapped pieces. Mum and her friend had had one each. Friend left the chair out near the table and the dog ate the lot, wrappers and all.

Being a staffie he had no ill effects at all.

Enjoy your new addition, I bet she will melt you all with adoration and calm strength, ours used to pull us in our sledges when we were wee.

Bedtime was a hilarious ordeal - we expected her to sleep in the hallway, on her bed, until we could check she was completely house trained. She had other ideas. We gave in and left her in the living room and woke up to no poos or wees :D
