Dicky bags, who's got one?

GobblersKnob · 28/06/2014 09:49

After a long woodland walk last weekend, juggling leads, children's hands and bags of poo, I have decided the time has come and I need a Dicky bag, (audio want a matching treat bag as they look fab).

But what size? I have two medium sized raw feed dogs, the guide on the size says a large, but I don't want a bag bigger than I need. Though if I did get a bigger bag then maybe I could keep a slobbery ball in their too, or is that a bit grim?

Can't decide between patterns either, or the standard or premium, can't believe how much I have complicated the decision over what to store shit in Grin

Just googled, you're mad! From £21!!

pigsDOfly · 28/06/2014 13:23

Wow. I have a small dog and currently have a small back pack that has to hold poo bags, a large size water bottle for dog, small water bottle for me, balls - usually more than one as one will often get lost, light waterproof jacket or cardigan - that's for me, purse, mobile phone, and keys. There might be other stuff but that's all I can think off. Can't see all that fitting into even the largest of those smart little bags.

Previous bag I had cost me £12 from a charity shop, lasted nearly 3 years and carried everything I needed.

Won't be buying a Dicky bag any time soon.

GobblersKnob · 28/06/2014 16:07

No, the dicky bag is just for shit Grin nothing else, have another bag for all of that.

Oh I see. I've never heard of them before. I also googled them. Now I know they just to put your dog's shit in I definitely won't be buying one.

Why on earth are they so expensive?

CMOTDibbler · 28/06/2014 18:19

I have a large one - and the slobbery ball goes in there too. We could have got a medium one tbh. We got BIL and his gf a medium for their lab and springer and its a good size for them.

Floralnomad · 28/06/2014 18:47

Why do you need a bag to put a bag of dog poo in ?

moosemama · 28/06/2014 18:59

I just double bag (or triple on rare occasions) and stick it in the spare section of my bag until we can get to a bin. If you take a few of those awful scented nappy sacks with you, you can use them for the outer bags and you don't smell a thing.

WilliamShatner · 28/06/2014 20:58

Just add straps

I like the idea of a Dicky bag but I don't like the patterns on their website. I'm very fussy!

WeAllHaveWings · 28/06/2014 21:37

or get ddog to carry his own with a Poo-Porter in pink.

"If you walk your dog and want them to feel that they are doing an important job, let them carry their poo. This frees your hands to talk on the phone and gives the dog a great sense of duty! They come in black and pink and adjust for different sized dogs. Goes in the wash for easy cleaning."

SnakeyMcBadass · 29/06/2014 10:15

Am I the only weirdo who bags it, ties it and just....carries the bag by the loops until I reach a bin?

Floralnomad · 29/06/2014 10:19

No snakey that's what everyone I know does .

SnakeyMcBadass · 29/06/2014 10:23

Wouldn't it...fester if put in another container? Bake in the heat? Eugh.

WilliamShatner · 29/06/2014 10:27

I suppose it depends on the size of the load?

A small poo carried jauntily in a small dog poo bag until you come across a dog bin is acceptable.

If you have a large breed dog and he/she does a massive, steaming pile of crap and the bag is visibly bulging with a heavy load, and no bin is in sight for miles, then it would be preferable to disguise the fact that you are swinging a large bag of shit in your hand!

GobblersKnob · 29/06/2014 11:39

Grin at all the thermos related links, keep that poo lovely and warm....Wink

If you walk your dogs where there are poo bins then no, there is no need for a poo container, however we spend a lot of time walking in Yorkshire and the South West, in places where there are no bins whatsoever. Half an hour into the walk they poo and you are left dangling a bag for the next three or four hours, until now with one dog I have sucked it up (not literally!) But now with two it's too much juggling for my liking, especially when small people are trying to hold my hands as well. I used to bag and put it in my dog bag or pocket, but there is not a chance my OCD would let me now, so an overpriced, well sealed, designed for the job, bit of neoprene seems like a good option to me.

(And they are British made Wink)

CMOT, think I'll go for a medium then, I was hoping someone would deem that to be big enough and it sounds like it will be, cheers.

As the inventor of this it is interesting to read the various comments. I'm a mum of 4, dog owner, who is not only sick of carrying smelly excrement in a flimsy bag, but also upset by the amount of dumped poop bags I see strewn around, and hung in trees. So I invented a solution which is airtight, washable, soft, lightweight and leaves my hands free to hold my kids hands. I make it in UK, be size my kids will need jobs. neoprene is an evpensive material and it lasts for years and years. So all in all, £21 for a handmade bag that gets used twice a day for approx 5 years isn't much at all and it means my walk isn't spent with a bag in my hand because I' want put on this planet to be poop slave!

hebejebe · 30/06/2014 08:40

We've got a small one - so far unused as the Hebedog arrives today! Much excitement in our house this morning. It looks really well made - neoprene material is very soft. I am slightly concerned though that the small will be too small so might size up once I see what we are dealing with - in poo terms!

Floralnomad · 30/06/2014 08:53

mandy I can see why you invented it but I'm afraid I think that the type of people who leave the bags hanging in trees and strewn on the ground are not the same people who will spend £20+ on a bag to take it home in . Good luck with your new dog hebe

WilliamShatner · 30/06/2014 11:51

I agree with flora about people who couldn't care less spending money on a special bag.

However, I have a different perspective as I am willing to spend X amount of money in something functional but also looks good. For me the bags don't appeal to someone like me who still wants to look good even walking the dog! The patterns are not visually appealing. I want something more stylish for my money.

GobblersKnob · 02/07/2014 14:24

Well I have just taken delivery of my dicky bag and matching treat pouch and I am well chuffed, they are great, brilliantly made, the treat bag is genius and may well be the best canine £15 I have ever spent.

Hoping for poos on the school run Grin

I have one, don't always use it but I do a couple of walks where the policy is not stick and flick (a number of remote places I walk this is the signposted policy/request) you are expected to pick up BUT there are no bins....I abhor full poo bags left in trees (WTF is with that)or the really beastly thing that happened to a follow dog walker the other day, she cam back to her car to find some Arseshole had left there poobag on her car......., or by the side of the path - so for these walks my dicky bag is a life saver........

CMOTDibbler · 02/07/2014 14:33

Glad you like them Gobblers!

Canidae · 03/07/2014 12:20

I wouldn't want a dicky bag but I do like the look of those treat bags.
