Choosing pet insurance for mini schnauzer puppy

Please could i ask for some help as i have just started trying to find cover to start after our four weeks free from the breeder ends, and i am very overwhelmed!

I have a mini schnauzer puppy and am really wondering what kind of cover is best to have? I have run two comparison sites, and am also going to call petplan who we are currently with (free trial), but i don't know what i need to ask for?

Should we go for accident only, or time limited (whatever this is), max benefit or lifetime? What loopholes do i need to look out for and are there any brands that you would recommend i avoid?

Thank you wise ones!

I use petplan covered for life £7000 per year.

It means that any ongoing condition will be covered (up to £7000) per year then it gets topped up every year.

It is expensive (£37 per month) however my pug is just turned 3 and already has had about £7000 worth of ops. She would not be here if not for her insurance.

I have never had a problem with petplan at all and I would highly recommend them :)

Petplan covered for life £7000.
I have Petplan covered for life £4000 per year and my dog used nearly all of that in his first 12 months. He has elbow dysplasia.
The vet recommended Petplan for my first dog. He said they were easy to deal with and quick to pay out, and I have found this to be accurate.

I've never used any one else so can not offer advice on who to avoid.

I would always opt for lifetime annual benefit policy to protect in the event of ongoing conditions. I hope I am wasting my money but never want to have to make a treatment decision based on cost. It's incredibly easy to spend a couple of thousand just on diagnostics for some conditions.

Sorry, going to hijack the thread a little but out of interest, has anyone used animalfriends for insurance? The come out soooo much cheaper than petplan but is that because they offer a lesser service?

I wouldn't touch animal friends with a barge pole. They are cheap for a reason. Always Petplan for my pets.

Thanks, I had a feeling that might be the case.
