Hi, whippet puppy is 7 weeks and will be needing vaccinations, castration etc.

Does this seem like a good deal...

www.thehealthypetclub.co.uk/category/157

£119.88 for 12 months.

Or at the same vet practice, pay individually

Puppy vaccinations £59.24
Microchip £9.98 possibly free elsewhere or at the surgery.
Kennel cough with booster £15.26
Castration £112.51- £180.00

Not had a dog for a long while so am unsure of what the average prices are!

Should we go for the Healthy Pet Club loyalty scheme?

I didn't pay that much for initial vaccs and we don't need kennel cough. flea and worm treatments can be cheap if you shop around.
I suspect it would be cheaper to payg.

but maybe ring around for quotes for the neutering as it varies quite a lot.

WilliamShatner · 22/06/2014 06:48

Worming and flea treatment we will do ourselves.

The vet I quoted above is the most convenient and has good reviews.

I will look at other vets and get prices.

Thank you.

I think this might work out really cheaply for vaccinations - it looks as though it should,

Read all the terms and conditions. I seem to remember with the V4P one that only includes the vaccine so you have to the consult each year.
The one benefit of healthy pet type clubs is it allows you spread the cost. So are discounted over pay as you go. Ours is 10% cheaper and our flea products are cheaper than Internet prices, so the plan is really very god value.
Also research the vaccine used. We offer the most modern up to date in our plan others use a cheaper older vaccine in their plan. There are some vaccines that are sufficiently old I would not use them.

I think those prices are actually pretty cheap. We charge a little less (but we are definitely at the more reasonable end of the spectrum). Lonecat makes a good point about finding out what you are actually getting for your money. Also, do you think you will definitely need to have him castrated? That might change things considerably.

Our vet does a health plan which I've joined this year ,it's a very good deal and basically means that by buying 2 boxes of advocate I get free vaccinations ( inc KC) ,the tape wormer and 10% off other stuff ( blood tests, food etc) . Its a pay monthly thing . I've only gone with it because I know and like my vet ,I would never sign up with a vet I hadn't used as you may discover you don't like them!

ddog's plan is about the same, the only thing we have extra on ours is "all parasite control as required", so would include tics if they were an issue.
