spaying a dog using keyhole surgery

My vet offers the option of key hole surgery for spaying. Only the ovaries are taken and the uterus is left intact. There is no risk of pyo as ovarian tissue is needed for this.

Whilst more expensive, I am tempted to take this option as the surgery is less invasive, there are no external stitches and no need to wear a cone which I know my dog would be distressed by.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I choose this more expensive option for my collie. There was no way I could keep her calm/not bouncing around and just do lead walks for over a week so it was a no-brainer tbh. I kept her in her cage straight after the surgery and bought loads of interesting chews for the second day. It was well worth the cost in my opinion.

oops *chose!

what is difference in cost?

MonstersBalls · 10/06/2014 12:00

For me it was around £70 extra Shock

Am paying £120 extra, but to me it is worth it for a less invasive surgery, no cone and normal off lead exercise, within a couple of days. Also there is no need to remove stitches. She is a big dog though so I would pay more than others.

God I wish we would have been offered keyhole surgery.

However, we were given the choice of a t/shirt cum baby grow thing rather than a cone.

To be fair though, her stitches haven't bothered her one bit, she goes on Thurs to have them out.
