On my facebook (I know, sorry) there is a rottweiler page. I have a very very beloved and well behaved rottweiler. Another lady thought she had a well behanved rottweiler until it (apparently) randomly attacked a chihuahua. The dog was very badly injured and died overnight. They are covering all bills and cremation.

The owner of the chihuahua has requested that they get the canines filed so they have a guarantee this won't happen again.

I'm not sure if my feelings on this are harsh but if my dog attacked another dog, seemingly out of nowhere and I wasn't able to control him, I'd get him put down as he is obviously a dangerous dog. She has a three yr old granddaughter. She thinks even filing his teeth is too harsh.

My DD is 2.5 and loves my doggie as much as I do (probably more) and I would never have an animal like that in the house,

Am I overeacting or would you carry on as if nothing had happened?

Mine's never managed to pull me over held like that and I'm not exceptionally strong...so I figure it's do-able for any average sized able bodied adult...

Caught off guard or on a longline, maybe - but because mine does have issues I'm hyper vigilant.

So, not fun but manageable, IMO.

I wouldn't send mine off with someone who wasn't used to him or anything, but I don't think it require superman type strength, lol.

When he pulled me over, if was an extended line. In the interest of science and for comedy value, I'm quite tempted to give him to my mum or someone and see if they get pulled over. Wink

My mil thinks dogs get a taste for blood Confused like vampires . Do you live by cannock Chase raskova? I was born there, well not on the chase...in the old hospital...

Wrt your op, I really don't know.

Mrslaughan, I get a bit fed up of small dog owners if I am honest eith you. They generally (not all) don't train their dogs very well, I presume because as they are smaller their behaviour doesn't impact on them as much as a larger breed would. I had a little westie go for my dog and my dog reacted normally and she screamed at me to get my dig away and put it on a shorter lead
Her dog approached mine
Her dog snapped at mine
I had to move my dog away from hers
Her lead is a standard 6ft one

No I was born in Stoke. My dad still lives there and my mum lives on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border next to 'an historic market town' which may give it away. If not the racecourse will. It's a great place to go out walking/cycling. I'm in Northampton now Hmm

Is that the hospital that been in the news a lot recently?

I'd probably get the dog pts.

Raskova · 07/06/2014 15:53

Agree with you there owl lady but I don't think it's just small dogs. In my experience it's also larger family dogs like Labradors because they don't realise how important it is to train dogs properly. My mum has a labradoodle and is very guilty of this.

Her dog will walk over to others and she'll always just say don't worry, she's fine it would never occur to her than the other dog wasn't and the owner would prefer it if my mums dogs excitable dog wasn't all over their dog.

I'm in beds now. You have followed me yet stayed the same distance away at the same time :o

Owllady · 07/06/2014 15:58

Sorry, no. Cannock used to have a maternity hospital back in the old days....my two eldest were born at the one you are talking about though :( I had a dreadful time with the eldest (and was called a silly little girl throughout, which was nice)

Raskova · 07/06/2014 16:11

My godmother supported it, went to a protest type thing as well. Her sons were born there. I was born at north staffs... The good one...

Ha, how funny! So close, yet so far Wink

Sorry, didn't mean you tabul, someone else was saying that anyone with a potentially dog aggressive dog should use a long line. I was just pondering whether that would help in most situations.

tabulahrasa · 07/06/2014 20:07

Oh I do use one...in case he does see a dog before I do, but I always have him back on a short lead if I can see a dog.

They are handy as a precaution.

mistlethrush · 07/06/2014 21:17

A harness with a D ring at the front might be handy - double end training lead with both the top and front used - if the dog pulls it turns itself around.

Raskova · 07/06/2014 21:47

What's that mistle. It sounds hilarious Grin

Raskova · 07/06/2014 21:47

Does it have an official name?

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 07/06/2014 21:50

You have a harness made (eg these people make harnesses that you can opt to have a front D ring fitted (its like the ring you put the lead on on the collar, but its on the front of the harness, not just the top like normal) so that if the dog pulls they automatically pull themselves round to face you!

Raskova · 07/06/2014 21:59

Ha! I love the sound of that. I think Tyson would be quite shocked Wink

Sounds expensive tho. Checking out link now Grin

I've just bought one of the fairly large sizes for misltehound as I wanted a comfy, visble harness for her (particularly when in a field of sheep, on a lead). We got one of the ones that comes in 3 parts to ensure a good fit (because she's a peculiar shape for a dog) and had incredibly good customer service and help from them. (No connection whatsoever with them other than just having bought a harness from them and seen them reccomended by others for 'pullers')
