Is she poorly of just a sign of getting old?

My bull terrier is 6 ( almost 7 ), the past few nights she has been quite unsettled and is occasionally sick, she paces around a bit and I get up and let her out but she doesn't do anything ( just Potters around the garden and then comes back in ), she's quite lazy but has bursts of energy usually in the evening, this morning I took her for a walk, I don't take her that often as it's hard work with 2 dogs and she seems happy playing in the garden, today she struggled with a short walk and was plodding along slightly out of breath, all she has done since we got home is sleep ( she's now snoring on my lap ), she seems to want to be with me even more than usual and wants extra cuddles. She's eating fine, pooping fine and other than a couple times where she has been sick her food is staying down.

Could she be poorly or is it just down to getting older?

I would get her to the vet asap. She's the same age as my staffie and she does not behave like this at all. She can easily do an 8 mile walk with us.

To be honest of course she's out of breath though if you don't walk her properly. I'm a bit agog at you posting that as if it's okay. I have a decent garden but my staffie gets an hour out at the very minimum. It's important for exercise and also stimulation, which she can't get just in her own garden. It's simple not good enough to say it's hard work - no one forced you to get two dogs but you have them now.

I know I should walk her more, I know o should have thought about it before getting another but the other grew to be doible the size he was meamt to be makong him harder to hold onto whilst we are out. I cant do much about it now other than tey and make more time to walk them seperatly.

Vet. She isn't old, and even in a much older dog any behaviour change needs checking. Hopefully she has just got a slightly upset tummy but it does warrant a vet's appointment. Hope she is ok.

She is not old and should not be like this. Yes she needs to be seen by a vet. If she is not neutered this should be ASAP as all her symptoms are signs of a pyo.

Vet I reckon. Good luck.

Thank you, will take her to the vets, she has been neutered and has always been healthy ( has only ever been to the vets for boosters and to be natured ), she is rarely sick so the fact she has been sick a few times in the past month does worry me, she has always been quite lazy and will sleep a lot unless I drag her off the sofa, maybe she has got a bit depressed due to me not walking her enough ( I do feel guilty ), I might look into getting a dog walker for a couple days a week. She's probably slightly over weight, I will make more effort to exercise her, even if it means dragging her off the sofa.

So how did she get on at the vets?

marne2 · 18/05/2014 21:38

Ss he hasn't been yet as dh has been working late so I havn't had a car to get her there, she seems much brighter and has been out playing in the garden ( nice weather has helped ), no more being sick and no waking in the night, she does seem to be sneezing quite often ( more than usual) and has been snoring louder so wondering if it is some kind of virus? Will see how she is tomorrow and call the vet if I need too but over all she seems much brighter.
