Is my dog in season or something more sinister?

Our 8yr old rescue dog was reportedly spayed by her owners before going into rescue. Rescue took their word for it seemingly although we have since discovered they lied about the age of the dog. One of our vets said she was 95% sure she was (by feeling her tummy) another said it would be impossible to tell as at 8yrs old if she had it done young the scar tissue wouldnt be able to be felt.

Well you usually cant see her lady bits but this past few days they are visable (at first I thought she had something stuck to her fur). No bleeding though.

All my past dogs have been spayed before leaving rescue so we were 100% sure it was done so I have no idea what a dog in season looks like. Please help.

They do swell up before a season starts...but, you might want a vet visit just to make sure that's what it is.

Can't the vet scan the dog or something? They sound very vague. I mean how can a vet just not know and then offer no more guidance Confused maybe I have had bossy vets!

A small normal uterus is quite tricky to see on ultrasound. However, there blood tests that can be one easily to check for the presence of ovaries. This maybe worth investigating.
