Nearly 5 month old puppy still having accidents

Hi,I have a 17 week old Springer pup who despite being clean all night and in the cage when we go out (the most we've left him is 3 hours but that's not very often) he's suddenly started weeing everyday in the house.Sometimes he'll do it rught in front of me.HE does sort of ask to go out (he hasn't worked out to bark at the back door).I keep thinking I've been missing his cues so I've been watching him religously but it doesn't seem to make any difference.I have 2 boys 8 and 6 and I'm wondering if he's trying to get my attention?Do dogs even think like that?I have an older springer who is 8 too.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?

No, they don't we to get attention
I presume you put out after every accident?
Let out every time out of crate, after every excitable episode, after food
I think we aimed for once an hour, but I can't remember. So I am not much use Blush their bladders are tiny at 5 months though

OwlladyThanks for replying, yes we do all that.He often will go on command but for the last 2 weeks he's been having accidents every day, sometimes more than once a day.My older springer got it so much quicker. It's driving me mad!I just don't know what else to do

Are you sure it's not a water infection?

I have never had a male dog btw Blush do they scent? Or is that when they are a bit older

My male terrier was slow to toilet train and we worked out it was because he hadn't really worked out how to ask to go out. I trained him to press a buzzer but you can easily do it with bells or similar. See, for example www.clickertraining.com/node/1171

What is he doing before the accidents? Playing? Sleeping?

Spicypear It doesn't seem to happen at a set time if you get me.He seems to do it at random times.I can't rule out scent marking but I would have thought if he had a UTI he would seem poorly which he doesn't.He does drink a lot but he is on dry food.

It's not entirely unusual for there to be some regression in toilet training but I would take him to the vet to rule out a uti first. If there's no health reason and you're sure he knows how to ask, the only real way to deal with regression is to go back to basics. Out after every meal, sleep, play, and on the hour just like when he was tiny.
