Mast cell tumour

My beautiful best friend has his second mast cell tumour in 6 weeks. I'm not sure if it was already there or if it is a spread from the first one. I'm planning on getting it removed next week and having X-rays and scans to check it isn't any where else.

But what if it is elsewhere? He unfortunately isn't insured so I will have to fund chemo myself. Am I being stupid to even consider this? Had anyone's dog had mast cell tumour spread to the organs?

I don't want my loyal beautiful funny best friend of 11 years to die Sad

Oh glitter, I'm sorry :( you have go be sensible though too x x

Thanks owl. I know I would be silly to go ahead with chemo I'm a single parent with a part time job but he is my first baby Sad I'm so silly for not getting him insured when I could

How much longer would he live with chemo though? Even with insurance it's not always that straightforward.
I am quite pragmatic. I always think what is best for the dog? It's heart breaking though.
I hope you positive news x

And by pragmatic, I mean he is 11, is it fair etc. :( esp if you can't afford it. Have a frank talk with your vet, mind you they are always quite frank, I find

I am sorry if this will upset you

He has so much life left in him is what makes me sad he acts like a pup still even the vet called him spirited he was being nice and meant naughty haha

I think I just need to wait on the results of the scans because if it hasn't spread he wouldn't necessarily need the chemo as these two tumours might not even be connected. It's all the uncertainty of it all.

I'm willing to accept he will die and wouldn't let him suffer but while he still has fight left him I can't just let him down because I would struggle financially.

You haven't upset me at all thank you for listening x

There have been really good results with Masivet a chemotherapy specifically for mast cell tumours.

GlitterFingers · 16/04/2014 19:28

Really lonecat thank you for that information. I will have a google. The way my vet was talking he had given him a death sentence was horrible
