Dog being violently sick, what to do?

Hi, my Staffie has just been violently sick ( 5 or 6 times in the past hour ), she seems to have stopped now, maybe because she is empty but is looking very sorry for herself, she's rarely sick.

Sorry if TMI but there was white foam in her vomit ( not when she was first sick, butt he 2nd and 3rd time ). She hasn't been out today so hasn't been in contact with anything, she did pinch a mouthful of dry cat food earlier but other than that I can't think of anything that may have caused it.

She's now lead in her chair looking very sad, I have cooked her some rice for tomorrow, should I try and push water into her? She doesn't seem to want a drink.

Have never seen her be this sick before Sad

She may have an upset stomach. I would speak to your vet for advice.

Has she been in the garden? Do you have any flowers in the house. I know lillies are dangerous for cats.

Check your cleaning and medicine cupboards.

Was there anything in the sick?

Gileswithachainsaw · 07/04/2014 22:38

Sorry to ask this but is she vaccinated? When was she in contact with any other dogs?

PigletUnrepentant · 07/04/2014 22:40

White frotty vomit or yellow frotty one? If the first one ring the vet, if the latter give her stomach a break and feed her small portions if rice throughout the day tomorrow.

Any chocolate wrappers found?
Or did he eat something different in last two days maybe,

Have you had the heating turned up more than usual?

Any runny poos?

I would take her to the vet, it sounds gastric

Thank you, sorry I posted and ran ( had to clean up, then she settled so I went to bed leaving dh to sleep downstairs with her ), I gave her rice for breakfast, she was a bit quiet first thing but kept her breakfast down, she now seems much better.

She hadn't been anywhere yesterday, there's always a chance dd2 could have fed her something as she tends to give the dog things she doesn't want to eat, hopefully she's ok now it's out of her system, if she's sick again I can take her to the vets tomorrow as I need to take my other dog in ( getting castrated int he morning ).

I am glad she is okay marne :)

In general I treat D&V in dogs with 24hrs no food and see what happens, but look out for a temperature, pale gums, jaundiced eyes, lack of energy/lethargy, a bloated stomach, blood in vomit/poo and dehydration. Any of those means the vet asap for me to rule out more serious problems.

She's back to her normal self today apart from being upset that her best friend is at the vets being castrated Sad.
