Pulling dog - update

I posted recently about my cocker spaniel pulling on the lead. Various harnesses were suggested and she has been on a gentle leader type of lead, a head figure of eight harness. It's brilliant , stops her sniffing and she walks nicely on it. I realise I still need to get her to listen and am encouraging the close and heel command. Thank you all for your input, big improvement so far.

I love the Cocker's stream of consciousness! And the thread-bombing pigeon.

Our toy poodle has a sock and pant habit. We've recently gifted him some socks (Master Harry Potter has given Dobby a sock!), which has added to his 'favourite cuddlies' list.

That makes him a free Poodle Georgian, he doesn't have to do as you command any more....

My greyhound is a shoe collector. Doesn't even nibble them, just collects. You can walk over and get your wholly undamaged shoe, not even damp! Weird dog...

Country walks, that explains a lot! Wink

Chatty, I might give him him 'Dobby dog' as his nom de plume on here.

I have a cocker / lab cross. He pulls and sniffs constantly. Just walks / pulls with his nose to the ground. I got a halti chest harness, does the trick round town. But my main solution is to walk him off lead by a river most of the time. He can't pull my arm off when he's swimming.

I have never seen a cocker that isn't dislocating it's owners arm.

And our Spanador ( I suppose?) will do anything to eat a tissue with snot in. They are his delicacy, to the extent that when you blow your nose, he comes running in case you drop the tissue.

Charming little devils aren't they? Love the sound of a spanador or maybe spanieldor, can't let they cockerpoo owners have all the fun! It's funny I meet so many cockerpoos and I get the feeling I have the " common " dog , her being only a cocker!

Yes they (cockerpoos) are becoming more popular aren't they? I think in hindsight they are a very good idea considering the amount of fur shedding ours do!
Little tumble weed balls of fur I am continuously cleaning up! Lucky they are cute.
I haven't seen a spaniel/lab cross before. I bet they are gorgeous.

I found a halti in a drawer, I remember now that i bought it a couple of years ago but gave up on it as she constantly pulled it off. I've watched a YouTube vid for advice and will start with the desensitisation.

My cocker/springer cross still pulls. I tend to tuck the lead under his front leg, so that if he pulls the pressure is pulling his head down. He walks reasonably well that way unless we've just left the house. I also use a canny collar if we're going on a long lead walk. He accepts it now, but it took work. He walks on a loose lead with the canny collar. Personally, I stop frequently so he can sniff and pee up things. I'm usually walking him for his sake iyswim, so I am happy to let him take his time. Most of his walks are off lead, though. Impossible to exercise a spaniel sufficiently on lead unless you're going to run a marathon daily.

Agree snakey. Ours live a good swim too which tires them out. Good tips with the lead under foot idea.
