My dog needs the kennel cough jab

But hates strangers going near her!

Will someone tell me how the vet is going to squirt the kennel cough up her nose if she hates being touched by strangers!, I'm already panicking that I'm not going to be strong enough to hold her for the boosters, never mind the kennel cough

She's a GSD.

My vet lets me take the medication home. DH then squirts it up his nose when he's relaxed on the sofa. The vet stamps up his booster record so he can go to kennels. My dog is a Staffy and very nervous at the vets.

I have 2 GSD's so going to book the one that's ok at the vets in 1st, so I can warn them about the one with issues around strangers. I think I'm just worried because the last time she had it she peed the table in fear but she was only 6 months, there's no way I'd get her on the table now lol

Ask the vet if you should bring dog #1 to dog #2's appointment. I've sometimes had success using happy dog to fence nervous dog up alongside the consult door, got the owner to stand in front and then reached across happy dog and sneaked the vax into nervous dog.
First try is the best try with KC vax. If you miss the first go and the dog is wise to it and freaks out, often you have 2 options left:

• KC vax home with owner as MrsHappyBee's post
• muzzle, strong nurse to headlock and get it over with as quickly as possible

If you go with option #2, ask to bring the empty syringe home so that you can start slowly getting the dog used to the KC-giving action a few months in advance of the next time it needs a KC vax. Also, find a training class that does the Kennel Club good Citizen award and work your way up to the Silver award - to do this they will learn to be handled by strangers. Once that's well underway, ask the vets if you can bring the dog in to their clinic a couple of times a week to sit in the waiting room or a spare consult room till it relaxes, then get a stroke and a treat from a spare nurse, vet or receptionist and go home. You can eventually work up to the dog being weighed and handled as if for exam. This usually takes many many visits over several months and most owners don't bother though.
