Golden retriever, 10 months, hates Royal Canin, detests James Wellbeloved, indifferent about Hills Science Plan. Not very enthusiastic about Pets At Home premium stuff.

He loves human food (of course) but a dog cannot live by toast and luncheon meat (bleeuggh) alone. I absolutely do not want to go down the raw or cooked meat route.

I have read all the online guides, but wonder if anyone has a personal recommendation of something.

Oh - to answer your actual original question- mine gets Hills Vetessentials adult. When I transferred her over from Vetessentials puppy, she was deeply disappointed and no longer views mealtimes as one of the highlights of the day, but she has plenty of other highlights and isn't thin. She does ignore the food for a bit, then carry individual bits of kibble around before eating them. I know you're supposed to whip away the food after ten minutes and let them go hungry till the next mealtime, but she eats enough in this slow faffy way and it doesn't bother me, and her coat and poos and energy levels are great.

I give our whippets Harringtons complete as mentioned by another poster. It was recommended by a very well informed breeder who gives it to her crufts level show whippets. They also have tinned sardines in tomato a couple of times a week and last time we went to the vet she asKed what they were eating because they were in such amazing condition. The best big (apart from them being so well) is that I can get it from Tesco!

Mine are on CSJ with the occasional tin of sardines in tomato sauce chucked on, and warm water to make gravy, and they wolf it down.

Ours just gets bored with brown pellets so I change brands often and add some left-overs or canned food, an egg or a spoonful of cooking oil which is very good for his coat.
