Dog burgers for tea :D

Tomorrow we will be having dog burgers, I will flavour them with the bits of dog ears that I chopped off before I minced her for burgers

UNLESS
you can help me to stop her thinking its a fucking game when I want her to come to me!

sometimes I call her and she comes to me
sometimes she doesn't...at all

and sometimes she'll come near and then do a bloody annoying jumping up and down and away from you thing as if its a game of chase

I'm quite certain I have fucked her up
I know I have not trained her properly
but I feel I can change that AND GODAMNIT

Right. First of all you are supposed to reward the dog each and every time she comes to you. Make coming to you an absolute fucking joy.

To do this you should not have a mincer in your hand and a crazed look in your eye.

You should have a favoured toy. Or a treat. But not the mincer.

Reward every time.

Hullys recall is now perfect unless she sees people or dogs. Then it's 50/50. But the odds are sloooowly stacking in my favour.

Do you have my dog? If yes, keep her and when you've trained her to even acknowledge her own name when it is said in her general direction, I'll have her back.

Reward, reward, reward each time she does done to you. Gradually introduce more distractions between yourself and dog - children skipping around, friendly dogs, etc. Reward.

Flexi lead in the meantime?

The problem with the mincer, of course, is that you'd have to catch her first. At which point she's technically come to you, and mincing isn't a reward (not in the books I've read anyway)

I always have a chunk of smoked sausage

if there is another dog then its hit and miss

but today there was no one else, she had already had a good 30 mins running after birds, chasing sticks etc and then she just decided she didn't care a shit about the sausage and did not want to be caught

I'm exasperated

I don't think I am doing it right

I call her when I don't need to put her on a lead and sometimes she immediately comes and I reward her verbally, with sausage and with a rub

but sometimes she just takes no notice of me at all

even if she hasn't had any breakfast and she really wants the sausage

Unfortunately she has turned out exactly like her namesake. Highly intelligent and utterly unpredictable. And ever so sadly mad.

I have tried calling and then just wandering off but she is more likely to start ignoring me when other dogs or people are about

and if she is running towards them and the other owner is not wanting her to (other dog on lead, just not a nice person or lots of other perfectly reasonable reasons) they don't take kindly to you just calling and walking off

I have to go and chase her and catch her

she will get excited and bark at dogs to say play play if they don't start chasing her

Then you have exactly the same issues I do. Only mine come with added jumping and molesting people

she doesn't jump up at strangers but she does do that in the house

I'm working on that with not greeting her when I get home until she sits
when she sits, I get down with her and give her a big rub and she gets to sniff me and snuggle but if she leaping about all fours off the ground or jumping up at me, she doesn't get it

Our dogs MUST be related. You have all the issues I do. As mentioned in my thread, it has come as a big surprise to me as my dear old boy was the complete opposite to her.

Did you notice we've all got girls? Just sayin'.......

she'll be two in july

Aaaah, apparently boxers have the same temperament as mine, a miniature schnauzer. She's 2 in August.

Maybe come September, we'll be casually strolling around with a dog at our heels, hanging off our every command, looking at us with a face that says 'I'd do anything for you'. Meet you back here after the summer, ah how we'll chortle about the toddler phase....

In the meantime, I am training myself and her, though she's a fair weather dog, refuses to walk in the rain, so it's all going on indoors, I feel I've made a tiny bit of progress, so who knows?
