Just that. Haven't stopped crying and it's not even done yet. Vet says it's the only course of action as she is in renal failure due to dysplastic kidneys and now had complications from all the fluids. What will happen as can't bear the thought of her looking at us whilst they stick another needle in her. She has been in intensive care for a week and they have tried everything. Can't believe it's come to this as she is only 3.

I keep on hearing that it is the final act of kindness. You have been tremendously brave. And kind.

M1SSUNDERSTOOD what a horrible thing to have to happen to such a young dog, must be hard enough with an oldie, am dreading the time coming when my old boy goes.
Your vets sound lovely, I hope mine are just as nice if I have to make that decision for my old boy.
As others have said you have been really brave and at least she isnt in any more pain and isnt suffering anymore.

We lost our labrador at 4 to renal failure. It was awful, it came on while we were on holiday and MIL had to make the decision for us, we came home to him gone, we never ever got over the feeling of guilt of not being there. We lost our other lab this October, we were there for him and I'm so glad we were. You have done the very best you can for him, but it still hurts so much. Thinking about you.

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 29/01/2014 20:06

How sad for all of you, I am really really sorry to hear that.

I'm so sorry for your loss....
Yknow, even if they lived till 30, it still wouldn't be long enough.
The Dogs trust Bereavement fact sheet helped me a bit.
'We suffer so they don't have to.'
