This year I have bowed to pressure from the DC and promised them we can take the dog when we go for a weeks holiday in May. We will go to the coast , but am I right in thinking some beaches dont accept dogs..
Any recommendations for beaches that will welcome my entire family ( including dog?
We live in South Yorks so am considering Yorkshire and NOrthumbria coast

We went from South Yorks to Northumberland with our dog last may half term. We stayed at Cresswell Towers caravan park (I think it is Durridge Bay or something like that). The beach is lovely. There is a fair few industrial sites in close proximity but you really wouldn't know it whilst on the site or beach and the dog loved it. We joined English Heritage too and dog was made welcome at various places we visited nearby.

Cresswell towers is right on cresswell beach. It's a stunning beach. We walk our dog there a lot. There's great rock pooling at one end and you can walk for miles along the beach to druridge. Cresswell ices for an ice cream is scrumptious. For somewhere more central Whitley bay has a stretch of beach where you can walk your dog but be careful as during April-sept they cone off a section as dog free. Further up he coast druridge bay is very pretty. Bamburgh is about a 40 minute drive up the coastal route. You can do a lovely beach walk from bamburgh to sea houses where you'll find some dog friendly pubsWink. The walk at low newton is also a great walk with the dog. Follow the beach, up onto the cliff path, stop midway for a drink and a snack at the ship inn. Then work your way back.

That time of year I think you will have more options in Northumberland. Can second Seahouses as having plenty of dog friendly pubs. I'd avoid yorkshires touristy hot spots like Scarborough and Bridlington as large parts of the beaches there don't allow dogs at that time of year.

I suggested cornwall in the summer without the dog but ds is begging to go back to cresswell again so we may well end up back there in May again!
