Why does my dog have these bald spots on his elbows?

3 year old golden retriever. He is entirely a housedog and only goes outside for walk or toilet- he never has to lie down outside is what i'm saying. In the house he mainly sits/lies on the sofa and occasionally on the tiled kitchen floor if we are eating in the living room. He has no skin conditions or fleas but he has bald spots on his elbows. Why does he have these? Is this normal? Confused

It's just from lying down...my dog's got them on his back legs, just above his knees - I couldn't for the life of me work out how they were happening as they're on the outside and on both legs.

Till I looked at him one day sleeping on his back in his crate with his legs akimbo resting on the bars, lol.

On the elbows is much more normal because that's how most dogs lie.

Thanks tablahrusa. Do you think they hurt?

No - for starters, my dog's got room to fit two of him in his crate and can sleep wherever he wants and he still chooses to sleep in it, like that, lol.

It's just from having pressure on - if it looks sore or inflamed or if they start to lick at it loads it's a problem, other than that it's just a wee bald bit.

One of my GSDs has scabby elbows.....this is the dog who spends his life sleeping on the sofa ....apart from the ten minutes of sunshine we have in the summer when he tries his very best to sleep on my steamer chair instead of one of the blankets I put out for them to lie on instead of the hot paving stones.

It grieves me! It's as if we make him sleep on cold hard wet concrete all the damned time.

It's just caluses, DDog has developed these but the vet says they are nothing to worry about

They dont seem to bother him- he has always had them except when a small puppy and was just all fur. Good to know its nithing to worry about.
