Is the kennel club good citizen scheme always based on positive reinforcement?

I just wonder if anyone knows - I'm doing some research into puppy training in my area and it seems like many of the classes do this scheme. It sounds really good, but I definitely want to do positive reinforcement training only with my dog, and can't seem to find this info out.

Thanks in advance.

No unfortunately not - a lot of old school teaching so tread carefully and visit the classes first before paying any money Smile

If you want to say where you are I can give you a list of positive trainers - tbh it really is worth travelling to get a good one.

Try looking on www.apdt.co.uk and www.petprofessionalguild.com/ for trainers near you

Thanks, I've had a look and there are several trainers listed fairly locally. A lot of them are on the list Nutty sent me, so I can start making some calls now.

Thanks

The APDT have their own version of the scheme - there is a Puppy certificate and a Foundation certificate. Our current trainer is APDT so doesn't do the GC scheme. Having said that, I did Bronze, Silver and Gold with another trainer locally who was excellent and she used only positive, gentle methods.

In all seriousness, make sure they are positive with you as well. I've heard some absolute horror stories about trainers who humiliate or belittle people in their classes - there should be no place for that.
