In the last year I have become a dog owner and a driver so this year I want to do days out and holidays in England that our lovely greyhound can come along to too! Smile

If anyone can recommend any:

  • campsites/holiday parks/hotels/b+bs
  • cafes/pubs/restaurants
  • attractions/parks/locations etc

where dogs are welcome please add them to this thread.

Maybe also if you know of a good website for this sort of search share that too? I did do some googling but all seemed a bit of a chore to find so thought I would go for MNer recommended instead.

We have had loads of use out of our English Heritage membership from Walkworth Castle in Northumberland to Dover Castle. Most properties allow dogs and he has been thoroughly welcomed in most of them. We just take it in turns to go inside any buildings.

Dogfriendly is quite a useful website.

Generally we find that the further north and the more rural, the more people are happy to have dogs around. So, in our London suburb there are 3 dog friendly pubs. But in the peak district it is rare to find a pub where you can't at least go into the tap room with a dog. And in Bakewell you can go into a lot of the shops too .( not antique, cafes nor chemists, but lots of the others). Likewise, as long as your pooch is on a lead it can go to Bakewell show.

If you look at things like English Country Cottages there is a symbol indicating whether dogs are allowed.

Is English heritage like National trust? Will look into both, sound good for days out!

Can't take turns going in buildings as single parent to one child but we would enjoy the outdoor parts more than the indoor anyway. Smile

We live in East Yorkshire and will mostly be exploring the north I reckon. Will check out those websites thank you.

EH are the ones without a roof generally Grin

We are South Yorks so not to far from you and have used it lots.

Travel lodges will allow you to take your dog for a £20 per dog supplement. We also have National Trust membership and most properties will allow dogs into the grounds.

Many beaches on the Yorkshire coast are dog friendly, even in the summer.

Crich tramway museum in Derbyshire is great and dog friendly (ours have ridden on multiple types of vintage trams) and in Yorkshire the North Yorkshire Stream Railway (from Whitby) is dog friendly.

We stayed at St Mabyn holiday park last summer with the hound, and it was v dog friendly with a huge dog walking field.

For a day out, we loved taking cmotdog to the CLA Gamefair - there were lots of 'have a go' dog things (he failed totally at simulated coursing), and a dog creche so he could have 4 hours in the shade while we did the not dog things

Cotswold Wildlife Park allows dogs in most areas.

DameDeepRedBetty · 01/01/2014 14:15

Eden Project has special shaded carparks for dogs to stay in.

So will Ibis hotels and they do breakfasts. Unlike most of the TLs. Still cheapish and good on weekend offers.

The Good Dog Guide is v useful. Cadw (Welsh version of EH) will let dogs on leads into most of their castles/properties etc. You should look at the Camping and Exploring with Dogs blog/books - Cat greyhound writes reviews of dog friendly days out and adventures. We've used Travelodges with ours successfully and many private hotels and B & Bs are very dog friendly. To be honest, yr question is so vague/general it's quite hard to answer - if you are a bit more specific about area/budget/time of year, then people can give more tailored responses.

Wow thanks for all these things to check out! Didn't know that about travelodge/ibis! English heritage looks good, DS loves things like that.

Well I am talking small budget rather than 5 star accom prices. Mainly thinking of camp sites and also lots of days out to various places. Dog friendly eating places would be really handy too for if it's not picnic weather.

North of England, particularly Yorkshire (I live East Riding area).

DS said he would like a camp site that we can take dog and have a camp fire. Hmm Will do a search on ukcampsites for that.

We already have 2 Haven holiday park little breaks booked.
