I'm nearly at my wits end and DH is already there!

We have a 4-5month German Shepherd/Jack Russel cross and he's driving us insane. I had dogs growing up but this is my first as an adult and I'm realising I really don't know what I'm doing.

I'm going to look into training classes in the new year but would appreciate any tips in the meantime. Our biggest problem is toileting. He can spend ages in the garden but has got into the habit of weeing and messing as soon as he comes back inside.

The other problem we have is him nipping. He has plenty of toys but insists on trying to bite hands and feet.

Is this all normal for his age? and how can we deal with it? TIA

Agree with the others who have said go out with him and give him loads of praise and treats when he wees outside.
But also try a 'key word'. For ours, it is 'go pee pee', but my last dog was 'be quick'.

Take them outside, and repeat it over until your neighbours think you are insane, and when they are actually peeing, say it over and over quickly (gopeepeegopeepeegopee!) and then reward with treats.

Then you should be in a place when you can send them outside with the command, rather than having to stand outside. It is very useful if you are on a long car journey and stop for a rest, because you can give them the command rather than walk around a service station car park for 20 minutes until it occurs to them to have a pee...

Do get rid of the pads indoors you just end up having to train them again to go outside .whatever the weather you have to go out if you are persistent it shouldn't take long with an older puppy .

Just an update. We have got rid of training pads, treated lots and spent more time than I'd like outside and he is beginning to gopeepee :) more outside than in so a BIG THANKYOU!!! We're not there but on our way. Nipping is another matter but less annoying.

Miaow maybe he's less 'Special' than I thought then :)
