Our old girl (who has her bed in bedroom) comes into our bed in early morn.About 8am she came onto the bed and collapsed onto her side and started fitting. Was really scary lasted about 20seconds and she weed during this.
She was bit spaced out looking but seemed ok after awhile just bit quiet.
This has happened before about 1mth ago but lasted few seconds and she was ok but bit quiet for couple of days.
Shes a crossbreed and will be 13 in April.Im worried about taking her for walk today in case it happens while out, we have another boy her son he, ll be 11 in April he needs a walk too but cant really take one without other.
Also DP and me are going to my mum and Dads tom for few hours, do you think she'll be ok left for awhile?
We can't afford vets till next week (DP gets paid)
Anyone had any experience of dogs having fits? Ive consulted Dr Google but could be number off things worst being brain tumour :(
She also keeps wanting to go out in garden to eat grass.

We had foster dog who had epilepsy. We realised we could tell when she was going to have a fit, her behaviour changed. Not sure I can explain how though but she went very quiet for a while before. After she just needed quiet and reassurance. We obviously left her at night and she was ok we don't know if she fitted at night. Big controversy about epilepsy meds and although she had them to start she is no longer. Vets tend to medicate only after repeated fits I think. I suggest keeping a diary and don't worry too much. I know that's hard though!

Thanks she was shaking last night and bit clingy, but we had our window smashed,We think it was drunk teens, just thought it was that as shes quite a nervous dog with loud noises etc
Im going to do the diary see if theres any signs etc, thanks

Hi Sabra, I'm really sorry to hear about your dog, its so worrying isnt it? I had a dog who started fitting at the same age as your dog - see my old post here.

There was quite a long time after my dog first fitting, and her next, then subsequent fits - she was initially diagnosed with heart failure probably about a year after I wrote the above post, and was medicated. Her later fits were certainly heart related, and most likely caused thrpough lack of oxygen to her brain, due to her heart not doing its job properly, and water retention around her heart meaning her lungs were a bit squashed.

She sadly died in July this year. so almost 3 years from her first fit. She was 16, and had had a fabulous life. I really hope that you have at least as long left with your old dog. x

Hopefully our old girl is going to be around for awhile yet fingers crossed.
We will take her to the vets after christmas see what they think. She seems ok now just bit quiet she was playing earlier.Im scared to go out and leave her and take her walkies in case it happens as Ive got her 11yr old son wouldnt be able to carry her home.

Give her a break from walks for a couple of days, then do a couple of days on a lead then, if she is back to herself, normal walks. How is she today? And happy Christmas :)

Thanks, she seems ok today fast asleep now.We wentout for about 4hrs she was fine, my mum gave us some turkey leftovers for her which she loved.
She was shaking a bit last night and looked bit worried for about 5mins but she is a very nervous dog.
? Happy Christmas to you too ?
