Taking pic of the other dog/owner after an attack.

I witnessed a dog on dog attack in the local park during the weekend.
Both dogs (one big, one much smaller) were off lead and they were walking towards to each other.
When they met, they sniffed each other out.
And then out of the blue, the larger dog started attacking the other one causing quite a big injury. A lot of blood dripping from the leg.
The owners managed to separate them.

I didn’t hear what was said but they must have swapped contact details.
And as I walked closer to them, I could hear the large dog owner taking an exception to the other one taking pictures of his dog and him.
The other owner said that as he didn’t have any ID then how would he know the details he’s given are correct.
The argument then got really heated which set the dogs off.
It was quite scary.

I would have done the same if the other owner didn’t have any ID on him.

I wouldn't be happy at my photo being taken to be honest.

The attack sounds serious and the injured party will need all the evidence they can get if they want to claim for the vets bills which will be 100s if not more. I think the guy was right to take pictures. Hopefully this will be a message to the dangerous dog owner. This makes me shudder and stories like this are the reason many dog owners myself included keep our dogs on the lead whenever we encounter a strange dog.

If another dog attacked mine I would also try to take photos of the dog and its owner.

There were some very sad posters up along a local dog-walking route recently asking for any witnesses to an attack on a small terrier, who later died of its injuries. The owner of the other dog apparently left the scene without apologising or leaving any contact details. I don't know if the police would take any notice of evidence in the form of phone camera pictures, but it would be better than nothing.

But I would also not be surprised to get a hostile reaction to taking pictures from the owner of an aggressive dog who lets it off the lead when other dogs are around...

I have a friend whose rescue dog can be aggressive to other dogs, and she is quite rightly conscientious to the point of paranoia about keeping her on a lead when unknown dogs are within sight; unfortunately not all owners are like her.
