Food ideas to encourage a poorly pup back to eating

My 5 month old dog has had D&V recently but after seeing the vet and getting anti-biotic and steroids, this has stopped.

But he has very little appetite - walks away from his kibble but was prepared to eat chicken and rice. I'm just defrosting another chicken breast for him but that'll be couple hours - anything else that might tempt him back to eating without irritating his tummy? I wondered about scrambled egg? Vet said to avoid fatty food like cheese and sausage, can't think what else to give him?

Our 4 month old pup has one scrambled egg every morning and loves it. Could be worth a try?

Poor wee man Sad . Hope he's feeling better soon.

I find that anything nicer than the norm results in a couple of days of eating nothing with my dog. He is raw fed now so way more tempting in dog terms than kibble but he still has a will of iron if he's had table scraps. He goes a couple of days sometimes. But he has eating days and non eating days. He is lean, strong and in good shape so I think if eating patterns are probably healthy and more like how they would eat (he does the feast/famine thing well!)

My pov is that at some point you will have to stop, serve your food of choice and tough it out for 2 or 3 days. When you do it is up to you, but in fairness to pup, wouldn't you prefer chicken to kibble? Grin

Yes chicken and rice much more tasty than the kibble. But he usually wolfs it down despite getting a sausage a dog on walks for recall training and chicken breast once every 3 days. Anyway longer term is another issue.

For now it's like a vicious circle - he has no energy/interest in walking and no appetite - but I need to stimulate hid appetite so he has the energy for short walks to get him hungry again. Does that make sense?

Might try a scrambled egg then, and see if he's more perky. If he gets attached to this sort of food, I can tough it out, but need him to be bouncy and his usual leaping about self for that step!
