Does anyone have one? Or have experience of them as a breed? We are seriously considering one as a second dog, but a second dog needs to be pretty chilled out and to not mind being bossed about by our cocker spaniel bitch, who is very person-focused and has separation (and most other kinds of) anxiety.

I've done quite a bit of reading about them, but there seems to be conflicting information and I wondered whether anyone had direct experience of them?

The questions I have are:

How much exercise do they need? Would an hour off lead a day be enough? (I suspect it won't be)

Are they quite chilled out dogs, generally, or a bit highly strung/neurotic/clingy? Are they prone to separation anxiety?

Do they have good recall (having been well trained, obviously) or are they more interested in hunting than coming back? (have read conflicting things here)

Do they make good pets or would they get frustrated at not being worked?

TIA for any replies. Smile

I have a friend with a large one. He was tremendously hard work as a young dog and took an incredibly large amount of training. Now he is a lovely chilled dog, but the first 2 years were very hard work.

Thanks Lonecat. We'd be getting a rescue so an adult, I'd think. Do you know how much exercise he needs?
