Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I’m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don’t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

PeanutPatty - we have a lurcher. No idea what mixture.

Cmotdog loves his coat from Scuttle. You just hold it up and he dives in Grin

We've just been for a lovely walk in the woods where ds and dog ran round madly. And for once it was ds who didn't recall to the whistle as 'it wasn't worth it for no treats' Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 11/01/2014 18:33

Lola does that too peanutpatty, usually dh's shoe or her toy.

Glad to hear all is going well moosemama!

I took Lola to parkrun this morning, she's such a star now not a single stop just ran the whole 5k! She had had a 30min walk before though.

mistlethrush · 11/01/2014 19:16

Mistlehound had the first proper off-lead run today - she loved it. We went to the friendly dog club and she had the most fantastic time. There was a bit of a spat with a Malamute picking on a huskie - seen both there before and nothing happened, I just think it was one of those things. Wish the dog had come back to us when we asked her to slightly better rather than looking for an opportunity to join in Blush

PeanutPatty · 11/01/2014 21:32

Cinnamon does running with Lola make much difference to your time at PR?

cinnamongreyhound · 11/01/2014 21:44

Sounds a bit stressful mistlethrush!

It used to be that I was at least a minute slower with either dog but Lola is very focused now and the last two I've been have been quick :)

mistlethrush · 11/01/2014 22:04

The fight wasn't good... the owners didn't get involved soon enough and the husky hurt a paw - I think it was strained. We immediately tried to remove ours - and other people should have been quicker to do so too .... However, it reconvened after a short time and mistlehound had several additional circuits.

We have spent our first few days with lurcher pup. She was on a farm for a few months but that did not work out ( bullied by other dogs) so rehomed to us at 4 months.

She is delightful! At times cuddly and a love junkie, at times mad as a hatter with her squeaky toy or outside with a tennis ball. She exudes joy! And walks well on lead despite never having been on lead before. ( is that a lurcher thing?).

Really seems to like kids too.

And no "accidents " so far, she is very good at showing she needs a wee (gets restless).

Touch wood. What a happy start!

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 12/01/2014 07:48

(Sorry to be bursting in, going in about me me me) Blush

It 's the excitement

moosemama · 12/01/2014 10:58

Congratulations Fiscal. We need pictures y'know. Wink

MuttonCadet · 12/01/2014 12:01

Mutton hound has a limp Confused she started with it yesterday after we'd taken her out on the top lawn for a run.
She chased her ball and is learning recall, (with some success), but I think maybe we overdid it.
I've checked her paw and there's no damage that I can see (and it's a limp rather than not wanting to put her foot down). Could she have pulled a muscle? Should I just be letting her rest it or call the vets for an appointment? (DH thinks I'm over-reacting, but he's not an experienced dog owner - nor am I).

cinnamongreyhound · 12/01/2014 13:22

Does she make any noise when putting it down? I'm inclined to wait until Monday for weekend things unless they're clearly serious but that's just me. Sometimes things do sort themselves out but others may disagree.

MuttonCadet · 12/01/2014 13:34

No noise at all when puttin weight on the leg, but then she isn't a very vocal dog. She seems happy in herself, and seems content following us around as usual.

We're going to give her a bit of a restful day and then see if she improves over the course of the day. DH is under strict instructions to call the vet if she appears to be getting worse or is in any pain. (I'm working unfortunately).

Thanks for replying so quickly!

Hello everyone, happy new year :) I fell off the cushion again Blush

Well we took the tree away and Sprocket stopped peeing, so it was definitely the reason he kept doing it. New tree next year...

How is everybody doing? I'm V excited as I'm going on a trip to Wales again to visit a certain friend of mine with a group of Milgis Wink at the end of the month :o

mistlethrush · 13/01/2014 10:46

Lucky you Cunny! I am having to wait until half term in the summer before getting away with mistlehound.

Mistlehound is doing really well with the dog group - she's starting to get enough confidence to join in with the chases and can really put on a turn of speed when she wants to (which surprised everyone as she's a lot sturdier than the other saluki-based lurcher that's there). And she's spending less time telling other dogs that she's not interested - and being more outgoing - which in turn means that the dogs are less likely to come up to her in the same way.

cinnamongreyhound · 13/01/2014 21:42

Anyone watch the secret life of dogs?

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 14/01/2014 06:37

I did, So many dogs with separation anxiety!

And not a clear solution...

cinnamongreyhound · 14/01/2014 13:03

Really sad, especially those showing no outward signs who's owners thought they were ok!

mistlethrush · 14/01/2014 13:14

Don't say that! MiL said that mistlehound sometimes had the odd little cry when DH went out on the school run... I am minded to leave something recording to find out if its at all bad - but the thing that is stopping me is that she's always very happily asleep on the sofa when we get back and clearly just waking up with a nice stretch as we get to the door...

cinnamongreyhound · 14/01/2014 13:38

Suppose it depends if you'd do something about it if you found something. There were quite a few tips, similar to what moosemama was doing with lurcherboy. Watch the programme was very good, some didn't show outward signs but their cortisol levels were very high. I filmed peanut and he paced the whole time, I then filmed and didn't see him and it took ages for him To get to the door so I assume he's wandered off to sleep on a bed!

mistlethrush · 14/01/2014 13:47

I know that we could have had real problems - to start with she was stressed if DH went out in the evening - even though DS and I were still in - but she's not got that problem any more.. and the fact that she's always on the sofa, asleep, must mean that it can't be too bad, surely?

cinnamongreyhound · 14/01/2014 13:49

That's what I think Grin

mistlethrush · 14/01/2014 14:00

The only time I've heard her 'desperate' was on her first night at home - she was in the kitchen - I had let her out (and cleared up) at about 1.30 - but she didn't settle and started barking - which is very unusual for her - panicky high pitched barks. When I gave up and took her into the sitting room with me, she lay on top of the blanket on me and went to sleep. Then settled fine on the mat beside the bed (having first jumped on DS all the way from his doorway with great enthusiasm, then done the same to DH). She's not done anything similar since.

moosemama · 14/01/2014 21:12

Pip's Milgi coat has arrived and he looks gorgeous in it. Put it on him, he looked all dopey and snuggly and was asleep within a couple of minutes! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 14/01/2014 21:13

Need a like button moosemama, I clearly spend too much time on fb :)

CMOTDibbler · 14/01/2014 21:24

The only trouble Moosemama, is that he will start giving you The Look when you cruelly attempt to take it off. Cmotdog is sooo cosy in his
