Hi

Does anybody know why he tries to hump his dad? Son is about 3 years younger than his dad and he is always on his back?

Also the younger dog B is always wanting attention for about 20 mins even when I give him and his dad attention it's not enough for B running round you, crying, turning on his back he never stops he's out of breath.
It takes ages for B to settle. They both get the same amount of attention I'd prob say B maybe gets more goes he's such a pain.

Any advice

It's a dominance thing, not a sexual one.

clio51 · 15/12/2013 23:55

Is that the way he show it? But B the youngest and it's his dad he's showing dominance to. Do you think he knows it's his dad?

Any idea why he wants soooo much attention?

Are they neutered? Are they shih tzus? these wee guys are pretty randy! No, he doesn't know it is his dad- they will hump pillows/ toys/ legs- you name it! Second dog always seems to push more for attention as they are less "established" than dog 1- they need to fight for attention whereas dog 1 didn't!

Yes there are shih tzus the eldest dad is 6 and little guy is 3 he's the worse he wants loads of attention and never stops not matter how much you give him. He's forever humping his dad!
No they havnt been neutered I don't think there my sister dogs, and I'm asking because whenever anybody goes to the house this is how they behave. First you can't even get it because they jump on the couch and look through window barking there heads off.

Surely at 6 and 3 they shouldn't be carrying on like this? I think she sees visitors as a lot of hard work now.

Humping is not dominance, it happens for a whole host of reasons but in this case it's probably excitement www.psychologytoday.com/blog/animal-emotions/201209/why-dogs-hump

Humping may well be improved by neutering although at their ages it may have become an entrenched habit ,however that can be worked on but it would require a lot of work from the person living with the dogs . Why are they not neutered ?

Whoknowswhocares · 16/12/2013 09:32

Their age has nothing to do with their behaviour.
They have clearly had no training and dogs do not just magically grow up and work out for themselves how to behave appropriately
They are going to need hard work, consistency and patience but if your sister follows the advice of a qualified trainer, then it will almost certainly be possible to change their behaviour
