My little girl lab

Dh took dogs out for a walk this am. He got lost in some woods. He was walking for 90 mins.

Our boy lab who is nearly 3 is find but our girl lab who is nearly six months is having trouble walking this evening.

She stands up big her front paws are splayed and she clearly doesn't want to move. Sad

I've given her a gentle rub down, lots of attention and a quiet corner in her cage.

Is there anything else I can do until I can get to the vet?

So for typos. She stands up big? She just stands up with splayed front paws.

Dh carried her as soon as he realised how tired she was but the damage has been done. She has a 30-40 minute walk every day.

I'd call the vet ,it could be something totally unrelated to the long walk .

How is your lab today? What did the vet say? Hope it was nothing too serious, just came across your post today.

I have two energetic, working bred labradors.

If it was me, I'd put her on crate rest for a week with very low levels of exercise, avoiding a £40 consultation with the Vet. When things come on suddenly, i would worry less than recurring, sporadic lameness that never seems to leave. That would worry me sick.

Your vet is highly like to prescribe rest and with a six month old dog, rest will be difficult to enforce. I've done rest as in no walks but it is hardly ever really successful, especially with a slightly lunatic under 12 month old lab and another labrador to play with.

So now we do full on crate rest in these situations. Outside on a lead for toilet breaks, no walks, lots of rest and recuperation. Crate for majority of the day.

It feels a bit mean but actually it's beneficial to the dog in these circumstances and a week isn't a vast amount of time. if she's still lame after then then the Vet is a definite.

I know an animal physiotherapist who is always very keen to say that you should avoid these minor injuries as they affect the dog long term. My opinion is that none of us are stupid and we do the very best we can to avoid them but sometimes, shit happens.

She seems stronger today. Wobbly but no walk. Just toilet visits. Poor girl but there is definite improvement.

I'm dog sitting two other labs for a friend. One is pup same age and he's perplexed as to why I'm not allowing him to romp with her.

So slow improvement. Thank you all so much for your posts and advice.
