Petplan insurance

Does anyone have insurance with Petplan?
What are they like when dealing with claims?
I called them for a quote recently and it is higher than what I am paying for my other dog with another insurance company (£28 vs £22 per month for a similar cover).
But they said that premium will not go up as a result of a claim whereas most other companies will increase it.

Seems too good to be true that premium will not go up as result of a claim?
Must have conditions to it or is only valid if it's limited to certain kind of claims?
If you have a dog that is prone to illness and requires lots of surgery etc ... I don't see how it can be financially viable for them not to increase your premium the next year otherwise all dog owners with dogs that are prone with illness would insure with them?

Petplans premiums go up with age - so older animals do have higher premiums and they will rise every year regardless of whether you have had a claim or not. They do pay out quickly and rarely ask additional questions and I have never know them to find bizarre get out clauses.
The most important thing wih dog insurance is that it is lifetime cover as by far and away the most common claims are for chronic health conditions.

My petplan went up this year, no explanation but unfortunately I'd expect that with any insurance [I hate insurance!]

But my small dog is on a for-life policy, and when I put in a claim for an allergic skin reaction he'd had in the summer last year, they sent me a cheque to include the bad stomach he'd had 6 months previously, as the vet said they may have been linked to the same allergy. The only time ever an insurance company has paid me more than I expected! I find their customer service people really helpful too.

Don't know if its the same at other vets but I just fill in the personal details on the cover form and hand it into the vets reception, they fill the rest in and send it on, all very slick ime.

My experience is that they have good customer service and that your premium will not go up because of a claim. They paid out on my dogs dental work which according to my vet many would not pay for.Claiming was easy. Claims were settled quickly. Premiums do go up with the age of your pet though.

Another one here very satisfied with the way they have dealt with my claims.

Young dog had to have an eye op and had been seeing a specialist over several months. Just one of the claims I sent in was over £900, paid up without question.

I have a lifetime policy which is quite pricey, but as someone else said teeth are included which is something a lot of companies can be tricky about.

In fact, so far, I suspect they've paid out a lot more to me than I've paid in premiums. No doubt that will change over the years, hope so, don't want dog to keep having to go to vet.

I've just given up on insuring our oldies. It was going to cost us over £75 a month for each dog. I haven't checked prices from other insurance companies. It wasn't Petplan.

That's a hell of a lot each months Tiger.

I had a similar situation with my cats. From the time they were around 13 to 17 years old I was paying just over £40 each month per cat - not with Penplan. But given that they were elderly I decided the risk was too great that they might need some sort of expensive treatment and after all the years of paying high premiums I didn't want to just throw all that money away - I first took out insurance at £13 per month for each cat when they were 5 years old -14 years ago - after having to pay out £1800 when they were both ill at the same time.

My daughter has decided that with her two cats they are going to put money away each month and hope that covers what they need.

Treatment for dogs does seem to work out more expensive as far as I can see and I'd be very wary of stopping my dog's insurance once she get older.
