I couldn't watch the whole clip, it's too distressing, although I did watch the TV programme when it was on.
One of the things that I find really hard to understand is how this sort of extreme breeding works, how it progresses. Clearly the breeders are instigating it, but why? Are people buying these dogs because that's what's on offer and they know no better? People can't want deformed unhealthy dogs that spend their lives in discomfort at best, and in constant agony at worst.
You see so many of them in the park: dogs that can't run more than a few yards, if at all, without having to stop and pant heavily for several minuets because their faces are so squashed in that they can't breath properly or they're so heavy chested they're carrying more weight than their legs are built for. The neurological problems, the skin diseases, the spinal problems, it's all so heartbreaking.
The trouble is 'respectable' organisations like the Kennel Club are supporting the breeders, and the extreme looks are being perpetuated year in year out at dogs shows like Crufts.
The laws are finally being looked at regarding puppy farming - not sure how much will change tbh - this is on an equal footing in my opinion and needs to be urgently addressed as well. How that's to be achieved is another matter.
