What can we expect??

We are picking her up in a couple of weeks time when she will be 10 weeks old. We already have a lovely Golden retriever who is 8 yrs old. Not sure how she will react to the puppy, but expecting teething problems!

Any advice you could give me about this breed and how to make the change for my older dog easier would be very much appreciated.

Thank you Smile

It's not a breed. It's a mutt Smile

Hop over to the New Puppy Mummies thread, there's lots of advice and knowledge there!

Is she coming from a breeder? Have they done the relevant health checks for both breeds? JRT/Poodle cross I assume?

Good luck Smile

It's almost certainly from a puppy farmer, Sad especially as she will be ready for collection four days before Christmas - most reputable breeders do their best to avoid pups going to homes at this time of the year, along with all responsible rescues.

Don't know any reputable poodle breeders who would also breed crosses with terriers. This type of cross is a favourite of puppy farmers.

As has been mentioned, it isn't a breed, just a mix of two very different breeds. If you don't like the characteristics of either parent breed, then you probably should avoid a mix of the two!

Jack Russell terriers are feisty, strong-minded characters with a strong prey drive, a working dog. Poodles are also independant, clever and very energetic, but with a different working background to the JR. You really don't know what you will end up with. If you're looking for an easy-going people-pleaser like a Goldie, the chances are that you are looking at the wrong mix of breeds. The poodle coat is only passed on to 50% of their offspring so you might end up with the dense wiry coat of the JR which will shed plenty.

My advice would be to research breeds that meet your needs better, find a good breeder if you plan to show your dog, or go through a reputable rescue if you want a nice pet. Please don't give to your money to backyard breeders and puppy farmers or will have just perpetuated the misery for their breeding 'stock'.

This sounds dodgy on all fronts, right down to the pick-up date.

Please, please rethink.

If she is from a puppy farm then certainly prepare yourself for the possibility she may not be the age they say she is.
If they are reputable breeders then ask if you can pick her up after christmas- the madness of the run up is the last time of year I would want to try and settle a new puppy.

Thanks for the replies everyone. We are picking her up just after Christmas. She is coming from a private home. We have seen her with her mother, who seems like a lovely friendly dog (a small Jack russell), and well loved by her owners. The Father is a small black poodle who lives a few doors down from the family.

I understand that nothing is certain when you get a puppy. Our Golden retriever was anything but easy going when we got her as a pup. She was very hard work up until she was about 15 months old.

I know she is a mutt Smile I am fine with that, I like that she will be unique.

Thanks for the advice. I apprieciate you taking the time to reply Smile
