Enormous bouncy puppy who wants to play but looks intimidating and scary?

BigPuppy is huge. And bounces. And barks when he gets excited.

I know he just wants to say hello and play but it is a bit scary for other people. If an unknown polar bear bounced up to me barking I'd crap myself.

So what do I do?

I'm working on recall but he is an excitable puppy and other dogs and people are much more interesting than I am. Obviously this needs more work.

Do I restrict him to a long lead until he stops?

any suggestions please?

and apologies if he has bounced near you this week.

We used a product from Pets at Home called something like 'Stop Bark' - it is a small spray canister which you use for any 'deviant' behaviour - when pressed it produces an loud hissing sound which dogs hate. Worked so well that now we just have to show it to our 8 month old BT and she knows!

harness and line bought and tried out. I don't think he was bad for a first go. it's amazing what a bag of cat crunchies can achieve.

That is so cute. He'd love a little penguin to guard.

I'm south west Ireland so no use to anyone.

Looks like I'll have to move to Ireland, always looks the perfect country for a Border Collie.Smile
Had a good walk with him today on the long line which I think gave me confidence and I therefore relaxed and enjoyed it. We met a lab and they played a bit, then met the army doing a quick march so I made him sit and wait, all good practice.
Off to puppy training tonight, I'll see how my naughty little squiglet behaves himself.
