CKCS Owners

Hi, I was hoping for some advice. We are hopefully getting a CKCS soon. We have done a LOT of research and found a good breeder that has health checked the parents etc, but I just wondered if any owners out there had any advice to give. I have been told they are very easy to train and very adaptable to your lifestyle etc. To be honest, I've only heard good things. Is there any bad points apart from health issues I need to be aware of.
Thanks
H

No. Just the health issues. They are wonderful, family friendly dogs.

We lost ours just over a year ago with heart failure, aged 6. Parents had been health checked but it happened anyway.

Would still have one again in the future though. I couldn't straightaway as I felt it would be replacing him, so we have a different breed now, but one day we'll have a Cavvy again I'm sure.

I'm so so sorry to hear that. They are wonderful dogs and I've only heard lovely things about them. Their hearts are a huge concern for me, but buying from good breeders that have tested the parents is all you can really do. It still amazes me the amount of puppies being bred from untested parents. Some breeders just don't think its necessary.
I'll be posting pics up once we have brought the little one home. Thanks for your post.

They're the best dogs ever. Earlier in the year we lost our beloved milo who was CKCS and two weeks ago we brought home our brother/sister CKCS pups. They are amazing. I've never used puppy pads etc with them just put them straight out into the garden and with the exception of one or two accidents they virtually trained themselves withing the first week. They do like to chew though so make sure you have plenty of chewy toys available. They are so placid and loving and playful you couldn't have chose a better breed.

We are ckcs owners. We have a pair who are age 6&3. We had a pair previously. Who we lost at ages 5&6, the female had an infection in her womb and the male it was his heart, but he also had joint problems where his knee would slip (common).

All of our cavs have been rescues so we never opted to research breeders, although we have made breeder acquaintances over the years. I totally agree with everyone who says make sure they have their dogs eyes/ears/heart/DNA tested. In saying that. I know a reputable breeder who tests her dogs and still when she took her pups for their check one had a heart murmur present at 6 weeks. I don't know how common that is.

Both ours have eyes/ears/heart annually. I'm actually going today with one. There is always that hold breath moment while the vet checks the heart.

But! They are the most loving, loyal, caring dogs ever. I truly believe that.
They live just to please you, this makes them so easy to train. They love everyone and are so happy. Perfect lap dogs (even if a little hairy lol). Grooming doesn't take much, a brush every other day, and a snood for dinner time if you like their ears long. Grin
