sulking dog

I am looking after my best friend’s dog as she is going to be away for a while.
Both her dog and mine are getting on fine, sleeping in the same bed and lying against each other but at times when they play they can get a little rough.
One is a lot bigger than the other one, so a little worried if they get injured.
I give them both attention in a group and also individually, but my dog has been what I can only describe as sulking.
When he sees me going to a different room with the other dog, he mopes around with a sad look on his face and then he wouldn’t eat his meal even though he is hungry (I can hear his stomach rumble)!!
I have to give him something else or put his food in the other dog’s bowl so he doesn’t feel like he is missing out.
Sometimes he just nips the other dog without provocation and this starts the play/fight.

What more can I do so my dog doesn’t feel threatened/jealous?
And also how do you get them to play nicely without the nipping and pinning the other one down?
They are both quite young dogs (

As they are only 1, I think that is how they play as still very young. The one being nipped will know if it is spiteful/aggressive and will react accordingly. If he takes it as an invite to play then it is fine.

Why do you have to go into a room just with the visiting dog and not yours? Of course yours will feel left out.
I find it odd and amusing that yours will not eat out of his bowl despite you hearing his tummy rumble and has to eat out of the 'guest's'.

Is it your dog that does the pinning down?
