My jack russell has always been grumpy and snappy towards my toddler but this has recently got a lot worse and I am scared that my little one is going to get hurt. Can anyone help with re homing solutions? I'm in South Yorkshire thanks

Have you had him checked out by a vet to see if there's a physical reason for the bad temper?

if you must re-home, please please please don't sent him to a rescue shelter. Google jack russell breed rescue or something similar and people who know the breed will help you to find a home for him.

Good luck.

Can you keep them separated?
Under what circumstances does the dog snap?

Mdfarrugia30 · 18/11/2013 23:34

I've been keeping him in the kitchen but feel really bad that he is shut away when he is such a lovely dog, he snaps whenever my little boy goes near him

We've had him checked but they just say it is the nature if his breed

If you find a nice small rescue centre, they will often regime from home, and may well have families waiting for dogs. Worth giving them a call anyway.

I'm really sorry that you are in this situation. Must be tough.

*regime is meant to read rehome (stupid autocorrect!)

It is not the nature of the breed that is complete rubbish.

If you want to work on this further take him to another vet (a decent one) to exclude pain issues. If he is elderly his teeth may be causing him problems, or he may have arthritis, or something else that could be easily addressed and would change his behaviour. Then find a decent behaviourist (www.apbc.org.uk/) who will come to your house and assess the dog. He/she will advise you on whether the problem can be worked on or not.

If you have decided that you must rehome get in touch with small rescue centres that foster rather than kennel and with breed specific rescues to see if they can help.
