My neighbour is 87 and about 2 months ago brought a puppy- a Jack Russell.

While at first we I had no quibble with it after assuming it would cause problems- in the past few weeks it has. He leaves it for at least 2 hours in the morning while he shops. I'm not saying leaving it is bad- but it barks. And barks. And barks. And barks some more. It doesn't stop until he goes in through his gate. When I hear his gate open relief actually hits me. The barking can be heard about 50 metres away. I have young children as does a lady not next door on the other side but the lady next door to her who has said the barking is starting to annoy her as well. Now he has been leaving it in the afternoon for another 2-3 hours. So we get at least 4 hours of barking a day- its not a few little ones it is constant.

When he takes it for walks he isn't picking the dog mess up. The dog jumped up at my child today and bit her and he didn't even scold it. It's clear he isn't looking after this dog and certainly isn't training it.

I have nothing against this gentleman at all- but is this on the level of the dog being a nuisance and would a complaint be justified?

Report him to the council for the noise and the dog mess ,if you could possibly get a photo or video of him not picking the poo up all the better .

Jesus, trying not to be ageist, but who the hell gets a puppy when they're 87 years old?! Quite apart from the barking, it's obvious the puppy will outlive him and what then...

Sorry, no advice but my grandad got a puppy in his 80s, outlived her then got an older rescue dog in his 90s and I'm sure that's what kept him going in his last years. Do you get on with him? Maybe have a cuppa with him and suggest training classes? He may not even know it happens. Good luck.
