At moment I'm using breed specific Royal Canin Junior but couple of people seem to think there are better choices. So thought I'd ask you what you give your dog/a and whether you/them are happy with it?

Watching with interest as we are getting a pup in the new year!!

I don't bother with "life stage" foods, I feed the same food whatever age they are and that suits our lot just fine.

I mainly feed Acana Pacifica, occasionally supplemented with Wainwrights wet trays for a bit of variety. I've had dogs ranging from a new puppy to a 14 year old all on the same diet and they've all done really well on it.

Wainwrights now do a completely grain free version (the normal version has a small percentage of rice in it) of their wet trays which is great as I prefer to feed grain free so I'm now using that instead of the standard stuff.

This is a good site for checking out dog foods and has some good articles about what to look for in a good food.

I use barking heads for my dog. He's doing really well on it, though it's not cheap!

I have 9yr old and 4mth old Labradors and feed them both Millie's Wolfheart Riverside Mix. They love it.

Need to be careful of protein levels for growing dogs, so not advised to just give the same regardless of age

A decent quality dry food will have a suitable level of of protein for puppies as well as adult dogs, hence why many of the higher end brands with quality ingredients are sold as "all of life" foods rather than being broken up into life stages.

If you actually look through the nutritional information between adult and puppy foods there's often very little difference between the puppy, adult and senior foods.

Hills Science Plan Large Breed Puppy

Puppy seems to love it and is thriving so we're happy though it's £38 for an 11kilo bag so pricey.

our collie has done pretty well on chappie. Everything else we've given him have given him the runs!

I didn't use life stages food either, after having done some research I came to the conclusion that it's largely marketing. We use Taste of the Wild, which is grain free. It's higher end though, so expensive. You do use so very little though that the initial outlay is negated by how long it lasts!

We now give raw food in the evenings and have done for a while.
